The city of McAllen denied all of the allegations and filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, which was granted.

A lawsuit filed against the McAllen Police Department by a domestic violence victim who was kidnapped and murdered has been dismissed.

Recounting a story of a meeting that took place years ago, state Sen. Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa said, “It was a small meeting. We had a discussion about how we needed an A&M campus here in the Valley and a larger presence which we knew he also wanted. After a short discussion he said, ‘Consider it done’ and it became a reality and we have the A&M McAllen Education Center.”

Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp, a longtime advocate for higher education in the Rio Grande Valley, announced plans to retire in one year, prompting local officials to recall his impact on the region and efforts to grow higher education opportunities.

The program is designed to train two residents per year where they will spend a majority of their training at Starr County Memorial Hospital and the remainder of the time at DHR Health. By the end of the three years the program hopes to train six residents in total.

Efforts to bolster health care in the Starr County area just got a $700,000-plus boost thanks to a federal grant earmarked to develop the region’s first medicine rural residency training program.

Frida Sanchez and Fatima Hernandez, both 21, and Jordi Alejandro Gonzalez, 33, and Fernando Arteaga, 47, were detained following the raid and later arrested on charges of keeping a gambling place, possession of gambling device and equipment, gambling promotion and engaged in organized criminal activity.

Four employees of a San Juan game room were arrested and 77 gambling machines were seized in a raid Wednesday evening, the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
