Update: The suspect in this case had sued Tranquil Tortuga LLC and Jose Garza in May 2023 over a fall from a balcony on South Padre Island. That case was presided over by Judge Singleterry.

The plaintiff in a civil case was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Chicago on Thursday and is awaiting extradition to Hidalgo County, where he'll face charges for terroristic threats made against the state district judge who heard his case.

Update: McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos has penned a letter to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy asking for reconsideration, writing, “The Aeromexico route contributes meaningfully to this impact, and its cancellation would reverberate across sectors — from workforce development to international trade. Over 3,500 passenger reservations will be directly impacted after (Nov. 7) due to the proposed cancellation."

McAllen officials say they’re working with congressional leaders to preserve its “vital” air route between its airport and Mexico City following the U.S. Department of Transportation’s announcement revoking approval for the route.

Gilberto Zepeda III has been accused of sending harassing messages and threats over social media and other “electronic means” to state District Judge Nereida Singleterry, who presided over his civil case in the 476th District Court. He is now awaiting extradition from Chicago to Hidalgo County.
