Despite seeing a small rise of auto thefts between 2023 and 2024, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez stated that they aren’t seeing a similar trend in the Upper Valley, but are aware of the crime in the Lower Valley.

Motor vehicle thieves have now begun targeting a new brand of vehicle, according to the Brownsville and Corpus Christi police departments.

The program, whose initial cohort consists of 18 nursing students, will follow a traditional accelerated bachelor’s degree in nursing, or ABN, and will provide students with hands-on experience while compensating students for their work.

South Texas College in partnership with DHR Health will officially kick off its first nursing apprenticeship program next week, joining other student nurses from the Rio Grande Valley who have also begun this paid, on-the-job training.
