San Diego Latino Film Festival is TODAY! We are excited to present in San Diego, a region where many of the Aguilas del Desierto live. There will be a virtual screening of Águilas starting March 17th. You have all day to purchase the documentary shorts program, and 24 hours to view the films!

If you can make it, there will also be an in-person screening at AMC Mission Valley!

Águilas editor, Nico, is a Bolivan born filmmaker who graduated with an MFA in documentary film from Stanford in 2018. Throughout his time at Stanford and beyond, Nico has been dedicated to telling stories of the Latinx community, and more broadly telling stories of people giving back to the world and one another.

Águilas was a very special project to Nico. As a Spanish speaking filmmaker, and immigrant himself, telling the story of hope and loss that Águilas portrays was a project that was incredibly important to him.

Nico is now taking some time away from the camera to pursue his other love: bikes. He now works full time at Live in Peace, a non-profit that supports primarily Latinx and Black youth in East Palo Alto, CA who struggle in school. Nico runs a bike shop at Live in Peace where he teaches students to fix bikes, and provides affordable bike services to the larger community. Nico hopes to create a film about Live in Peace in the future, for now he is enjoying building connections and speaking Spanglish with his blossoming.
