UPDATE 1:15 p.m. 1-22-25: TVA has terminated ELCP Step 10 and Step 20 of the Emergency Load Curtailment Program. It is safe to end all voluntary energy saving measures put in place yesterday afternoon. Thank you all for helping to make sure the power grid remained stable and reliable during the extremely cold temperatures.

Due to the extreme cold, and to help maintain reliable power supplies, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is requesting all customers voluntarily curtail any non-essential electric loads effective immediately today, January 21, 2025.

Tonight, our area is expected to experience some of the coldest temperatures this season, which will lead to higher energy demands. As part of the TVA’s Emergency Load Curtailment Program (ELCP), TVA is implementing Steps 10 and 20 which aims to proactively maintain a stable and reliable power grid during peak hours between 5 a.m. and 12 noon, as this week’s temperatures approach record setting lows.

This request includes reduced lighting during the day, adjusting thermostats when not home or in parts of the residence or business that is not routinely occupied, and unplugging devices or appliances not frequently used. Please be aware that these steps will likely be in effect on Wednesday, January 22, and possibly Thursday, January 23, as well.

Here are some tips on ways you can help: http://tva.me/cMoj50QqmEf
