The National Weather Service in Blacksburg issued the following special weather statement tonight, December 2:

Light snow will fall across sections of southwest Virginia and in the mountains and foothills of northwest North Carolina tonight. Most of the snow will be south of a line from Bluefield, WV to Danville, VA. Up to 2 inches of snow are possible at the higher elevations, but most locations will see less than one inch. This may result in slick spots on area roads overnight, especially on bridges and overpasses. The snow is expected to end before sunrise, however, with temperatures falling in the teens and lower 20s by morning, untreated roads and sidewalks will stay slippery through late morning. Use caution when traveling.
