While the rest of the East Coast eagerly watches the clock, we’re patiently biding our time here at Ship Bottom Brewery on Long Beach Island, NJ. Over the years, we’ve rung in the new year in all kinds of ways: the iconic Times Square ball drop, the peach drop in Georgia, even the giant potato drop in Idaho (yes, that’s a thing).

But this year? We’re holding out for something truly unique. While others have their glittering balls and fruity traditions, we’re waiting for the grand finale here at 7pm for an Irish keg drop (midnight Ireland time). Because why settle for a sparkle in the sky when you can toast the new year with the satisfying thud of a keg and a pint in hand?

And honestly, it’s in moments like this, with laughter in the air, a pint in hand, and a room full of strangers turned friends, that inspiration strikes. Who knows? Maybe this experience will turn into a good book someday. After all, it’s in the stillness and connection of times like these that creativity often sneaks in—right alongside the cheers and the clink of glasses. Sláinte to finding inspiration everywhere, even at the bottom of a keg!

You do not need to read Achromatic Chronicles: Blue to dive right into Achromatic Chronicles: Green; it will increase your enjoyment of both books. Our story began with Jon, the “Question Boy,” who, despite living in the colorless, repetitive, mundane Gray World, is blessed with a thirst for adventure and a curious mind.
