Episode 86 is now available!

To kick off the new year, Michael and Brent welcome the captain of the Virtual Academy AR team competing in the Sea to Sea Expedition Race next month in Florida.

Jeff Welch, a 21-year law enforcement veteran and current training coordinator for the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office in Madisonville, Kentucky, joins the podcast as 2024's inaugural guest in Episode 86.

Welch reveals his motivation for taking part in the 72 hour adventure race from the Gulf of Mexico on the west coast of Florida to the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast.

Plus, Jeff also talks about his college basketball career at Central Arkansas University, where he had the opportunity to interact with former Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen.

300 Miles, 3 Days, 300 Racers

Tomorrow, guest Jeff Welch talks about preparing for the grueling Sea to Sea Expedition Race next month in Florida.

Jeff Welch is an active law enforcement officer with over 21 years of law enforcement experience. His current assignment is the training coordinator for the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office in Madisonville, Kentucky.

Jeff started his career with the Western Kentucky University Police Department in 1998 as a patrolman before moving to Henderson, Kentucky to take a position with the Henderson Police Department. He held several positions to include patrolman, detective and sergeant. Jeff was involved in training from 2000 until he retired in 2018. He followed his father’s career path of law enforcement training and supervised the training unit from 2010 to 2018.

Jeff hold numerous instructor certifications in law enforcement training and has trained thousands of law enforcement officers across the country. He is a national level instructor for Below 100 since 2014 and a certified Force Science Analyst. Jeff is a Kentucky Law Enforcement Council Police Instructor. Jeff is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy, Session 246, and is a board member on the Kentucky FBINAA Chapter. He holds a B.S. in Health Education from the University of Central Arkansas. Jeff is married with two children.

This week, co-host, Brent Hinson, and executive producer, Aaron Bevill, put host Michael Warren in the hot-seat to examine his experience working security for the inaugural Gathering of the Juggalos festival, the annual music event put on by the rap group, Insane Clown Posse.

Held at the Novi, Michigan Expo Center in the summer of 2000, at a time when Warren served as a member of the Novi PD, Michael gives a first hand account of what he encountered while keeping concert-goers safe during the very first Juggalos festival on July 21 and 22, 2000.

Dangerous encounters are part of the job with law enforcement, but the toll these incidents inflict often goes unspoken. This week, Between the Lines welcomes TJ Webb to the show to tell his story of being shot in the line of duty but more importantly his journey to recovery.

TJ Webb was a Police Officer with the City of Milford (Delaware) Police Department. He medically retired in December of 2022 after 19 years of service. He started his career in the patrol division and quickly found himself in an array of special units including SWAT, K9, Narcotics, and a member of the US Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force.

On December 10, 2020, TJ was serving an arrest warrant with the Marshals Task Force. During that warrant attempt the suspect opened fire on TJ and struck him 6 times leaving him with life threatening injuries. TJ Was able to battle through his recovery and beat the odds that Doctors had stacked against him.

During his recovery, TJ started the “Fit 4 Duty Foundation”. Fit 4 Duty Foundation is a nonprofit whose mission is to encourage Police Officers to get involved in physical fitness to better their physical and mental health. He’s a recipient of the American Police Hall of Fame Purple Heart, Fraternal Order of Police Medal of Valor, the United States Marshals Service Purple Heart, and the National Association of Police Organizations TopCop Award. Since retiring TJ now travels the United States sharing his story of overcoming odds, resiliency and helping officers through his nonprofit. He is also the author of ‘Just One More’ which was released in November 2023.

Recently recognized as one of the 40 Under 40 recipients by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) for 2023, Myles Cook joins the podcast as in Episode 82 to talk about that honor and how his work as a training coordinator at Walters State is leading to measurable improved outcomes for graduating cadets.

With a law enforcement background that includes work in corrections, as a patrol lieutenant and narcotics investigator, Cook shares how he was able to utilize his experience to develop and teach a training program that has been recognized for its effective merits at multiple Tennessee technical and community colleges.

This week, Michael and Brent welcome the 2023 IACP 40 Under 40 recipient, Myles Cook, to the show.

Myles Cook is the current Training Coordinator at the Walters State Community College Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy in Greenville, Tennessee.

Cook started his law enforcement career in 2012 at the Carter County Sheriff's Office in Elizabethton, Tennessee where he served as a Patrol Lieutenant (Watch Commander). He worked in various positions including, Patrol, Corrections, Narcotics Investigations, SWAT, Federal Task Force Officer Federal Bureau of Investigation & United States Marshal Service Task Force.

Starting in 2016, Myles also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve as a squad leader for six years.

In 2019, Cook became the director/lead instructor for law enforcement and corrections at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology where he developed and taught a training program that has been recognized for its effective merits and was implemented at multiple Tennessee technical and community colleges in 2022.

He now finds himself as the training coordinator at Walters State where he redesigned the physical training program and transformed the fi****ms training model, leading to measurable improved outcomes for graduating cadets.
