It’s a blue sky day here but the thermometer says 16 degrees! We made a trip to the grocery store and stocked up for several weeks. We (hubby Abe, myself and chocolate Lab Daisy) are very content to hunker in this time of year. You can see Daisy loves to curl up with a quilt in her bed!).
I’ve got a big quilt on the longarm. If it was any wider my needle couldn’t reach the edges. It’s nice to start the year with some lovely quilts to do. In the evenings I’m relaxing with my crochet projects. I made cozy afghans for Christmas gifts and they went over well. I just have a hard time having idle hands while watching our evening tv shows. We favor British TV shows. Maybe because Abe and I can trace our family lines to England and Scotland.
Time for a cup of tea! Cheerio!

I have room for several quilts that need to be quilted before Christmas! I’ve managed to keep current with customer quilts as they come in. If you drop them at Fabric Center give me a call so I can pick them up! Drop off at the house is fine as well!

I’m up extra early this morning. I thought I was coming down with a cold yesterday but today I realize it’s a sinus infection. My whole face hurts. Miserable.
I did manage yesterday to finish quilting a vintage quilt. Probably from the 1920’s or 30’s. I love it when someone finds a quilt like that and I can quilt it and help put life into it.
We have a full house. Our oldest daughter was resident manager of the Yogi Bear campground near Millbrook. It was recently sold to Sun Enterprises and will be a permanent site only facility. So Stephanie lost her job and her house. Gues where they are staying. We realize we are too old for this and are having a hard time adapting. They are in need of a nice rental and are looking for something in the Morris/Yorkville area and eastward. She has a boy in high school and a girl in grade school.
I had a full day at the longarm scheduled for today but I think my recliner is where I will be.

A big THANKS for all the kind words of sympathy and support. At some point we all share the experience of losing a loved one. Thank you again, my quilting friends!

Attention quilters! You may have heard that the Fabric Center has changed ownership. Don’t worry, you will still be able to shop for the quality fabrics you have come to expect. The regular staff will still be there to help you chose fabric or even a new machine. Making room for the new means great buys on few things. Bargain prices can be had on a large selection of used machines and some other miscellaneous items, including some small accent rugs. I was in this morning and saw some good bargains!

A sad day here at Busy B. Got news that my youngest brother Peter (eight years younger then me) went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus last night. He’s been unwell for a while and we knew this was coming. I’ve been thinking about him all day, remembering what a pill he could be when I had to babysit, remembering that we shared a love for music and that we both played piano. He added a trumpet to his musical skills too. Maybe he can help accompany the angel choir!

Good morning! I’ll be working on an awesome hand cross-stitched quilt today. I’m about halfway done. For the first time in ages we have an entire week with nothing on the calendar. I do need to get to the grocery store. Family gathering here on Sunday to celebrate husband Abe’s 75th birthday. God has blessed us beyond measure! We’ve been together since our first date in January 1966!

Shame on me for not keeping up with this page! I get so involved with things like QUILTING! lol!
Things have settled back to nearly normal here. Hubby Abe is doing well after a series of radiation treatment for prostate cancer. We don’t miss those trips to Joliet five days a week! So far his follow up tests have all been great. We are blessed, and thankful for everyone’s thoughts and prayers.
We suspect that the radiation contributed to the broken bone in his foot after tripping on his way out the back garage door to the yard. Thankfully after a number of weeks in a boot it healed nicely.
We celebrated our 54th wedding anniversary in early May and thanked God for all His blessings in our lives. I was a high school freshman (“townie”) and Abe was a junior (farm boy) when we met. Evidently he’d had his eye on me so he asked me to a school dance. The rest is history. He was in the Navy when we married. It was an adventure taking us from to California, Virginia, Massachusetts and Connecticut. We still enjoy reminiscing about those early years.
I just recently finished up a tote full of small quilts for a very sweet lady who has brought me quilts from when I started longarming! She has trusted me with her quilts for a long time. The friendships I’ve made with my quilters has been a real blessing. She shared that these would be her last quilts as her eyesight isn’t what it used to be. However, her family has quilts to cuddle up in for years to come!
I’ve had a few more quilts than usual come in for summertime. I think when summer heat sets in an air conditioned sewing room sounds really good!
It’s about time to stock up on thread and batting for the usual fall influx of quilts. My longarm room really needs a good cleaning. Talk about lint!
Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Good morning on this dreary day! I just made a trip to Fabric Center. I brought several quilts home and just now checked them over before checking them in. There are two with no name or check in sheet. They are both partially machine quilted, but there are areas yet to be quilted. Sound familiar? If so please contact me with a description. Otherwise I’ll drop them back at Fabric Center.

Taking a quick break from the longarm. It’s quilt, quilt, and quilt some more this week. I have a good lineup so no slacking off for me! Have to squeeze in annual dental check up, trip to my supplier to stock up in thread and batting, and follow up with Abe’s oncologist. Downloaded a new audiobook and just charged up my headphones. And away we go!

Spending a leisurely Sunday afternoon hand finishing binding on a large queen quilt. I love to hand bind. I find it relaxing and I can do it while relaxing with my feet up. It also reminds me of my mother who also enjoyed binding.
This past week it rained quilts for this Busy B! I have a lineup to work on. Good thing I love what I do!

I had to run to Walmart yesterday to buy a large enough box to ship two queen quilts. Their creator is my very first longarm customer, nearly 20 years ago. Several years ago she moved to another state and lives in an assisted living facility near her daughter. All of her quilts are queen size and made with love. She is in her 90’s. Her family will have quilts for a lifetime!

Quilt saves the day! We have sliding glass doors to our screened porch in the family room. We built the house 30 years ago so things aren’t as tight as they used to be. So this morning with below zero temps outside there’s a lot of cold air trying to squeeze its way in the house. Quilts, long pins and odd sized pieces of batting make for a lot less draft. My mother made the quilt for me not too long after we moved in. I’ll be thinking of her every time I look up from my recliner. Thanks Mom!

Only five more days of driving to Joliet for Abe’s radiation treatments. Next Tuesday is the last! Remind the men in your life to get their PSA checked as often as the doctor recommends. Early detection is essential!
I won’t miss the nearly three hours in the middle of the day spent on trips for treatment. Hopefully I can get current on quilts to longarm. I miss my time with my headphones, a good book to listen to, and getting into a rhythm with my quilting.
So…..on to the challenge I put forth in an earlier post. I came upon a partially started project in my sewing room. I think I started it sometime last year. My goal is to get it all pieced and then quilted. It will be a bright spot when I decorate for Christmas next year.
Time to finish the last 24” on a scrappy queen quilt. I’m quite sure some of the fabrics are 60’s and 70’s. There are some cute novelty prints that remind me of dresses my mom made for me.
Stay warm, stay safe and keep on stitching!

Happy New Year! Do you make New Year resolutions and forget about them within a week or two? I haven’t made any resolutions in years, but decided I would this year. Taking inventory of my fabric stash I have decided to chose a pattern, cut the fabric and make “kits” for myself. My hope is to piece at least one quilt top each month, and longarm and bind one each month. I hope to make all sizes from baby to queen. Most will probably be gifted.
It would be fun to surprise people with a quilt made with love!

Only several weeks left of daily trips to Joliet for Abe’s radiation treatments. Fatigue is the main side effect he’s feeling, but we did enjoy family get together at both our son and daughter’s homes over the holidays.
We are content here in our house in the woods along with the birds, squirrels
and deer! This month marks 58 years since a shy high school Junior asked this Freshman to go to a school dance. We’ve been together since!

Here’s for a year filled with lots of fabric and quilt making!

May you and your families all have a blessed Christmas!

We will celebrate with Christmas Eve worship service and time with family. Things are downsized a bit this year as our five days a week trips to a Joliet for Abe’s radiation continue well into January. Our recliners and a fire in the fireplace have become a comfort. We are avid fans of British television and I’m surprised we don’t have an accent! I’ve done quite a bit of genealogy and both of our families reach back hundreds of years in England.

Over the past few months I have been able to piece a quilt for our bed. My
customer quilts needed for Christmas are done, so I may get it on the longarm and quilt it.

Enjoy the holidays and I’ll be anxious to see both you and your quilts in the New Year!

Bonnie

Good morning. I’m hoping we will have some sunshine today. I could sure use it!

Monday through Friday trips to Joliet for Abe’s radiation treatments continue. Had to drop my longarm off at Fabric Center again yesterday. Some additional tweaking necessary. Hope to hear I can pick it up today.

Do you have all your Christmas quilts, table runners and other quilted items out on display for the holidays? I have several things my mother made for me for my December birthday gifts and I think of her every time I look at them. She was the one who insisted I learn to quilt over 30 years ago. So glad she did!

Calgon, take me away!
At least the skies are blue and the sun in shining! Abe is getting radiation treatments in Joliet five days a week and yesterday a new septic tank was installed. (Im praying for snow to cover up all the upturned soil. There were several big pieces of equipment involved. Most excitement in our neighborhood in a long time! We will have a lot of tilling and seeding to do in the spring. )

But I never expected Ruthie, my longarm, to present me a problem. She has decided to stitch a couple nice, even stitches, then throw in some really long ones just for fun. I’ve cleaned, adjusted, changed needle, changed thread, and still she is being cantankerous! So on his way to radiation Abe is dropping her at The Fabric Center. Doug has a pretty good idea what the problem is and I don’t think he will put up with her orneriness!

I’m in a bit of a panic, but since I had already planned on quilting into December I’ll be ready once she’s been fixed. If you have a quilt here that you need for Christmas, and if you’d like to take it to someone else, feel free to let me know and you can pick it up. I will post here as soon she’s been treated and released!

I kind of feel like a mother hen with no chicks! But it’s a good opportunity to do some in depth lint removal in my quilting room!

Twiddling my thumbs,

Bonnie
