NEW PLATES: Yes or no? Hit or miss? Let us know!

Oklahoma drivers will be identifiable by new, eye-catching, red license plates rolling out this September.

Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell and Service Oklahoma today unveiled the new standard issue license plate design, called the Iconic Oklahoma Plate. The new plate will be in circulation beginning September 1, 2024.

Beginning September 1, 2024, all 240 licensed operators in the state will begin issuing the Iconic Oklahoma Plate for newly purchased vehicles in Oklahoma.

Unlike previous plate redesigns, Oklahomans will not automatically receive the newly designed plate.

Oklahomans wishing to upgrade to the Iconic Oklahoma Plate can do so by paying a $4 plate replacement fee during their vehicle registration renewal at their local licensed operator.

Brown’s Tag Agency in Blackwell, on Main Street, is open Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:30pm and the First Saturday of the Month 9:00am - 12:00pm (Excluding Holidays)

“It’s great to finally unveil the Iconic Oklahoma Plate design, which honors and highlights our truly iconic state,” said Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell. “Using color and intentional symbology, this design pays tribute to Oklahoma’s culture and history, nodding to iconic landmarks, our original flag, state animals, and more. This design celebrates much of what makes Oklahoma unique, and I am excited to see it out on the road.”

The Iconic Oklahoma Plate promotes Oklahoma’s updated brand including its logo, wordmark, and tagline, “Imagine That.” The red, white, and blue 46-star icon pay homage to Oklahoma’s original state flag. The original state flag plate is among the ten most popular specialty license plates in Oklahoma.

The hand-drawn landmarks and popular symbols represent all regions of Oklahoma, including:
Skydance Bridge, Oklahoma City Memorial, Route 66, Sacred Rain Arrow Statue, Wind Turbine, Waving Wheat, American Bison- the state mammal, Red-tailed Hawk- the state raptor, and Golden Driller- the state monument.

The plate was designed by Freestyle Creative, a marketing and advertising firm based in Oklahoma City.

“Service Oklahoma is excited to roll out the Iconic Oklahoma Plate statewide this September,” said Service Oklahoma CEO Jay Doyle. “For those purchasing a vehicle, the new plate will automatically be issued during the vehicle registration process. Oklahomans wishing to replace their current license plate with the Iconic Oklahoma Plate will also have the option to do so at any time.”

Using feedback from the public, the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department helped select the finalized license plate design.

“I’m honored to have worked with Lt. Governor Pinnell on this project that was inspired by our state’s unique past and the moment we are in now with so many opportunities ahead to showcase our beautiful state,” said Shelley Zumwalt, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department. “A license plate is a small piece of real estate to tell Oklahoma’s story, and by incorporating elements of the state’s original flag with iconic tourist attractions, we give a nod to the past while welcoming visitors to be a part of our future.”

"The new design perfectly captures Oklahoma's history and our most iconic landmarks,” said Governor Kevin Stitt. “No matter where you drive in America, everyone will see Oklahoma's unique identity in an awesome way. I can't wait to see them out on the roads, and I hope Oklahomans are proud to display this new design.”

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections Correctional Industries is producing the new license plates. The plates are reverse printed on white reflective stock, which allows the numbers to remain reflective, enhancing public safety. Each plate is quality checked to ensure the best product for Oklahomans. OCI has produced license plates since 1982.

Oklahomans can learn more about the vehicle registration process at service.ok.gov.

08/01/2024

Friday , August 02 is the last day to apply for voter registration to be eligible to vote in the August 27, 2024 Runoff Primary Election and Marlow Public Schools Special Election, Stephens County Election Board Secretary Shawnda Seely said today.

Seely said that persons who are United States Citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 17 ½ years old are eligible to apply for voter registration. However, you must be at least 18 years old to vote.

Applications must be received by the County Election Board or postmarked no later than midnight, August 02. Applications postmarked after that time will be accepted, but will not be processed until after the June 18 Election.

Applications may also be submitted to any motor vehicle agency that is also an official voter
registration agency by the submission deadline.

Applicants will be notified in writing when their application has been processed. Approved voters will receive a Voter Identification Card in the mail. Some may receive a letter that explains the reason or reasons the application was not approved.

Seely said those who do not receive a response within 30 days of submitting their application should contact the County Election Board office immediately.

The Stephens County Election Board reminds voters that applications must be approved by the County Election Board Secretary in order to vote.

Registered voters who have moved to Stephens County from a different county or state will need to complete a new Voter Registration Application in order to be eligible for elections in Stephens County.

If you have moved within the county and need to update your address, you may make changes online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp or complete a Voter Registration Application.

Voter Registration Applications can be downloaded from the State Election Board website at
oklahoma.gov/elections. You may also complete a form at your County Election Board. Most post offices, tag agencies, and public libraries have applications available upon request.

The Stephens County Election Board is located at 1075 West Elm Avenue and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday . For questions, please contact the Election Board at 580-255-8782 or [email protected] .

MEET THE WATERMELON QUEEN
The Rush Springs Watermelon Festival is coming up!

This annual event celebrates the rush of local seasonal watermelons with watermelon-themed activities, carnival rides and family-friendly entertainment on August 10, 2024.

The Rush Springs, Oklahoma Watermelon Festival has been an annual event since 1948, and has grown to over 20,000 festival-goers each year.

The event will feature a seed-spitting contest, an arts and craft fair featuring over 100 vendors, carnival rides, live entertainment, stage shows, on-site food vendors and a classic automotive show.

The Watermelon Queen this year is Audrey Heath. “To have the honor of being Watermelon Queen means that you get to be the face and spokesperson for the festival,” said Health, a recent graduate of Rush Springs High School.

“I consider it an honor and a privilege to be able to spread the word about our amazing festival and represent the hard work our farmers have been putting in all summer to bring yall the best Watermelon around.”

When Heath was told about her being named the Watermelon
Queen, she said he reaction was beyond words.

“The amount of excitement and joy I felt that night was hard to describe,” she said.

“I have dreamed about this opportunity for years. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to represent my hometown. For me, it is truly a dream come true.”
Heath enjoy going to the lake, working out, playing drums in her church band and naps.

“I work at Blue Rock Therapy in Marlow as a technician. I plan to attend UCO in the fall and major in nursing.”

At the festival, Heath is most looking forward to the seed spitting contest, she says.
“I love so many things associated with our festival but a few of my favorites include the seed spitting contest, the Litter Mr and Miss Rush Springs contest and of course seeing everyone enjoy the free watermelon feed at 4:00pm.”

Audrey’s dad Michael Heath was born and raised in Rush Springs. He currently runs the family ranch and loves to restore classic cars. Her mom, Christie Heath, owns Blue Rock Therapy in Marlow.

Audrey has an older brother that lives in Edmond and is pursuing a degree in communication. Her grandparents are Betty and Melvin Heath of Rush Springs and Gary and Janice Sullivan of Denham Springs, LA.

“Our favorite activity as a family is anything that involves the lake or a boat,” she said.
“I hope the people who attend the festival and see me as queen remember that I was a Godly example to young girls, that I was kind and genuine with everyone I met and that I worked tirelessly to promote our festival and our local farmers,” said Audrey
