🌟 Stay Safe This Holiday Season! 🌟
Ken Doucette from the Middlesex Sheriff's Office recently visited the Marlborough Senior Center to share invaluable tips on avoiding scams during the holiday season. With scammers using advanced tactics like artificial intelligence, it’s more important than ever to stay vigilant.
Here are some highlights:
🚨 Common Scams to Watch For:
IRS and Social Security scams
Fake utility workers or contractors
Romance and trust scams
Phishing texts, emails, and phone calls
💡 Top Safety Tips:
1️⃣ If you don’t recognize a number, don’t answer. Legitimate callers will leave a message.
2️⃣ Never share personal information like your Social Security number or bank details.
3️⃣ Be cautious with unexpected door-knockers. If in doubt, don’t open the door!
4️⃣ If asked to pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers, it’s a scam.
5️⃣ Slow down and consult trusted sources like family, your bank, senior center staff, or local police.
Ken emphasized the importance of staying alert and reaching out for help if you’re unsure about any calls, texts, or emails. Let’s all work together to protect our community this holiday season!
