Bait ball action down south 🇲🇽
The Mexican sardine run is unending surprises and action. The ocean will go from calm to chaos as bait balls form and predators move in to feed. Mahi mahi and striped marlin will work together to feed on the fish, with the marlin coming in from below and pushing them towards the surface, while the mahi (dorado) will come in from all directions.

The details never cease to amaze me 🐢
I photographed this beautiful sea turtle last weekend in Playa del Carmen. One of the best things about starting to create fine art prints of my work has been a shift in how I look at scenes. I am so conditioned to create wildlife images for instagram instead of capturing a scene for its overall beauty. Last week while shooting in the Caribbean, I noticed that this is shifting and I am seeing my subject and the environment more completely. Very excited to share my art in a more authentic, less ephemeral way. Thankful for that and thankful for having all of you along for this metamorphosis. My art prints will be available starting on January 1.

Sea stars need love too 🫣 This video shows sunstars (a type of sea star) mating/spawning in Puget Sound. Research says that sunstars release their eggs and sperm into the water column incidentally, and fertilization takes place when the two find each other. However I def saw these two doing a lot more than just releasing gametes. Pretty sure they were having sweet passionate starfish sex. #scubadiving #deepseacreatures #seattle #underwaterlife
