Marianna Messenger Marianna Borough, West Beth news and information page Marianna was built as a mining town for the Pittsburg buffalo company in 1907 and incorporated in 1910.

At the time of its construction, the Marianna Mine was among the most modern and well equipped in the world. The town"s brick homes where designed to offer indoor bathrooms, fenced yards and other amenities making living conditions very attractive for the time.Marianna Borough organized a municipal government in 1910 electing Charles W. Conner as burgess.Thomas E.While was named president of council

and J. Blaine Wise secretary. The council promulgated the ordinances for the borough and provided the necessary services. Boney Sarvers was hired as the first policeman. He was succeeded Charles Betts, and lieutenant Helstrom. A curfew was intiated and was strictly enforced. The council meets in the Borough municipal building that had formerly housed the carpenters shop, every second Wednesday of the month. The mine company turned the building over to council. The council maintains the streets, enforces ordinances they vote upon, and manages the waterworks. In 1946 a new filter system was built for the town. It was given to the borough by the mine company in 1963. If anyone has any questions or concerns related to Borough, please contact Jeremy A. Berardinelli at 724-751-2108 anytime.. Pennsylvania residents are being asked to voluntarily conserve water after a statewide drought watch was declared on Thursday.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection says residents are encouraged to reduce their nonessential water use.

"Although this week has brought some welcome rain to much of the state, it's not enough to make up for the lack of rainfall this spring, following a winter that brought little snowfall in many areas," DEP Acting Secretary Rich Negrin said in a statement.

"As a result, we're seeing lowered stream flows, dropping groundwater levels, and persistent precipitation deficits. Water conservation, always a good practice, is especially helpful now as it'll lessen potential future impacts on water supplies if rainfall continues to be scant this summer."

Residents and businesses in the state are being asked to reduce their nonessential water use by 5% to 10%.

The DEP listed the following examples on how Pennsylvanians can use less water at home:

Run the dishwasher and washing machine less often, and only with full loads.
Don't let the faucet run while brushing your teeth or shaving. Take shorter showers. For example, consider not washing your hair daily.
Water your lawn only if necessary. Avoid watering on windy and hot days. Watering grass lightly and efficiently will encourage healthier, deeper grass roots. Overwatering is wasteful, encourages fungal growth and disease, and results in shallow, compacted root systems that are more susceptible to drought.
When mowing your lawn, set the blades 2-3 inches high. Longer grass shades the soil, improving moisture retention.
Water your garden less often. If necessary, water only in the cooler evening or morning hours, and direct the water to the ground at the base of the plant. Focus on new plantings, which have shallow root systems. Older plants may endure dry conditions longer.
Skip the car washing. If you have to wash your car, it's better environmentally to go to a drive-through car wash that recycles the water.
Sweep your sidewalk, deck, or driveway, instead of hosing it off.
Check for and repair household leaks. For example, a leaking toilet can waste up to 200 gallons of water daily.
Set up a rain barrel to be ready to repurpose rain when it does fall. For helpful information, see this Penn State Extension guide. Or just set out a bucket to capture water in the event of rain, and reuse it to water plants or the bird bath.

The statewide drought watch was declared following a meeting of the Commonwealth Drought Task Force this week, the DEP said.

Marianna Borough received fantastic news today.
On April 6th Range resources and the Washington County conservation district are going to partner with Marianna Borough to clean up all the rubbish along Horne Valley and Oak Spring roads.
They are bringing dumpsters and a tire shredder, this is awesome news for our community..
The dumpsters and tire shredder is going to be placed behind the ball diamond, the dumpsters are not for public use.. The borough is hoping to have one for the community during cleanup week April 15, through 22nd..
The Washington County Conservation district while partnering with range resources has won an award multiple years in a row for cleaning up the most rubbish from dump sites throughout the county.. They chose Horne Valley and Oak Spring roads as their clean up site this year. if anyone is interested in helping with the clean up please contact the borough office or The Marianna Borough official page.. I want to thank the the people that worked diligently behind the scenes to make this happen.. Once the sites are cleaned up, let’s keep them this way.. In 2016 the Borough in conjunction with Keep PA beautiful and Washington County community services removed 30 tons of garbage off these two roads.. We can’t let people keep dumping garbage everywhere where, let’s take pride in our beautiful community and let keep these sites clean!!

If we were to hold the meeting tomorrow without posting the agenda we would be in violation of the sunshine law . We plan on rescheduling the monthly meeting for February 23 at 7 PM at the Borough building.
