Welcome home little one! 😊

Follow along with me as we talk about some tips for first time moms or experienced moms as you navigate through the first few days with a newborn.

Do you have any tips to add?

Expecting your second baby and worried about your first born? This is a super common feeling that most, if not all, mothers of multiples will experience.

Jealousy is a big emotion and often times our little ones are experiencing it for the first time with a new baby.

They might act out, cry more, revert back to thumb sucking or ask for their pacifier. This is all normal behavior for a child who feels scared or threatened by a newborn. After all, your attention has been on them for so long and now they will have to share you.

I've compiled a small list of ways to help introduce a newborn to your first born but I definitely believe we can add more!

What are you thoughts about this? Have you or a friend struggled with introducing your kids? What other options might you add to my list?

9 things you need in your hospital bag

This list works for some but not others. I wanted to gather a list of items that are most common for parents to pack while they are away bringing new life into the world.

Let's start! πŸ‘‡πŸ»

πŸ“– A book/magazine/any reading material. Labor is BORING so it's nice to have something to look at that isn't your phone.

πŸ‘š Clothes for mom, baby, and partner. This includes a delivery gown, pajamas, go home clothes for mom/baby, etc.

πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ Baby outfit. Everyone loves a good newborn announcement pic so make sure to pack a cute outfit. My advice is to pack a couple different sizes in case one outfit doesn't fit.

🧴 General toiletries. This includes shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, toothbrush/paste, hair brush, skin care cream, etc. That first shower after giving birth is a thing of beauty (iykyk).

πŸ“± General electronics. Obviously your phone, headphones, chargers, tablets, smart watches, etc. Make sure to get that extra long charging cord because the hospital beds are HUGE.

πŸ›οΈ Your own pillow/blankets from home. Again, iykyk but those pull out couches are the WORST and it's always nice to have a little comfort of home.

🧒 Hat for baby. Especially if you give birth in the colder months but it's always nice to put a little cap on your new baby. Their skin is so delicate those first few weeks so it's best to keep it protected.

πŸ’§ Water bottle. Make sure to bring a refillable water bottle from home. You will both want to stay hydrated.

🍌 Snacks! The hospital may have a cafeteria or vending machines but it's great to bring along some healthy options from home. Most places will allow you to order food (DoorDash, UberEats, etc). Hospital food isn't the worst but you can definitely do better!

That's the main points! Let me know what you recommend for the long few nights in the hospital with your babies!

Breastfeeding is a natural and essential way to nourish newborns and young infants, and it provides numerous benefits to both the baby and the mother. 🀱🏼

Not only does breast milk provide all the nutrients a baby needs for healthy growth and development, but it also contains antibodies that can help protect against infections and diseases. 🦠

Additionally, breastfeeding can promote bonding between mother and baby and has been linked to a lower risk of certain health conditions for both the baby and the mother.

There are so many different activities you can do with your new baby. Here is a list of some helpful tips! πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ»

🀱🏼Skin-to-skin contact: Holding your newborn against your bare chest is an excellent way to promote bonding and help regulate their body temperature.

πŸ“– Reading: Reading to your newborn is a great way to introduce them to language and help them develop their listening and comprehension skills.

πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ Tummy time: Tummy time is essential for your baby's development, and it helps them build neck and upper body strength. Place your baby on their stomach for short periods throughout the day, while you supervise.

🎢 Singing and playing music: Playing soft music or singing to your baby can be soothing and help them relax.

πŸšΆπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Walking: Taking walks with your newborn is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise, and it can be a calming activity for both you and your baby.

πŸ™ŒπŸ» Baby massage: Massaging your baby can help them relax and promote their physical and emotional development. Use gentle, rhythmic strokes and be sure to avoid putting pressure on their delicate bones.

🧸 Sensory play: Engage your baby's senses with simple activities like playing with soft toys or textured fabrics.

πŸ—£οΈ Talking: Talking to your newborn helps them learn language and understand the world around them. Narrate your daily activities, describe the things you see, and respond to your baby's coos and babbles.

Remember, newborns have limited attention spans, so it's essential to keep activities short and sweet. Follow your baby's cues and adjust the activities to fit their needs and interests.

Did you find these helpful? What was your favorite when your babe was a newborn?

In general, it's recommended to avoid exercises that involve lying flat on your back for extended periods of time, as this can cause discomfort and decrease blood flow to the uterus. Additionally, pregnant women should avoid exercises that involve jumping or quick changes in direction, as this can increase the risk of injury or strain on the joints.

When doing barre workouts during pregnancy, it's important to listen to your body and make modifications as needed. For example, you may need to use lighter weights, reduce the range of motion, or take breaks more frequently. It's also important to stay hydrated and avoid overheating, as this can be harmful to both you and your baby.

β†’ Researched more πŸ’»

If I had to do it all over again, here are 3 things I'd do differently.

#1: Don’t stay in bed the entire time

At the time, I thought this was a good idea.

It wasn't.

It led to stiffness, aches, and pains.

Instead, I would get a birthing ball. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

I learned much later that a birthing call can help our bodies so much during labor.

β†’ Opens the pelvis
β†’ Increases blood flow
β†’ Encourages dilation

#2: Buy a heating pad πŸ”₯

One of my biggest mistakes was not letting my muscles relax.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd buy a heating pad. Because heat is what unlocks:

β†’ nerve distraction
β†’ new sensation
β†’ reduce perception of pain

Thing #3: Use essential oils πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Some women find that essential oils and aromatherapy can help them relax and manage pain during labor. There are a few different ways you can use essential oils during labor:

β†’ diffuser
β†’ massage
β†’ room spray

Let's talk about stretch marks! πŸ‘‡πŸ»

I support them but I also know that a lot of women would prefer not to have them.

These are two of my TOP recommendations proven by a client of mine to WORK WONDERS. πŸͺ„

In the morning, she would rub Palmer's Coco Butter Formula Massage Lotion onto her bump as she was getting ready for the day.

Then, in the evening, after her shower, she would massage in Bio-Oil on her bump.

My client did both of these every day from about 20 weeks pregnant and on. She didn't have any stretch marks AT ALL. ✨
