A New Season, Same Calling
First and foremost, I want to honor God in this transition. He has guided every step of this journey, and I trust Him with what’s ahead—even when the path isn’t entirely clear. After seven years behind the chair, I feel led into a new season. Some of this shift is physical, as the effects of a car accident last summer have made long hours more challenging. Some of it is mental, as life and responsibilities continue to grow. And some of it is about stepping out in faith, pursuing ministry, and embracing what God has next.
I’ll always be a barber—I’ll never stop cutting—but my role is changing. I won’t be in the shop as much, and my availability will be more limited. If you’re one of my regulars, I encourage you to get on my recurring schedule while I still have openings.
This year, we celebrate six years in Mansfield est. 2019, three in Ashland, and two in Shelby. God’s favor has been undeniable, and the 419 Barbershop family has grown in ways I never could’ve imagined. Mansfield Barber Expo started birthed here shout out Sarah. Thanks for all of those who helped along the way. Most noted Patrick from West Park Barbershop your encouragement and business advice throughout the years as a friend we appreciate you. The 419 Burger (Bring it bacccckkkk) was birthed from this shop, Shout out to Smitty. Shout out to Allison Pence Art for always coming through. Some important conversations happened in the shop “Shop Talk” (available on our website for to the “our impact page” also on Apple podcast check it out.) Shout out to Jay & Richland Source, Jay @ DRM Productions, Luke & Mankind Murals Inc. and all the individuals who said yes and took time out of your busy schedule.
There’s so much more potential and still a lot of work to be done in this community. The barbershop has been a platform to make things happen. I’ll continue to be involved behind the scenes as we look toward the future.
I also want to thank my family—for the sacrifices, the early Saturdays, the “Can you watch the kids?” moments, and the constant support that made all of this possible. Kids having to endure lonnnngg hours at the shop and being “bored” doing exactly what they do at home lol.
To our 419 family—your support means everything. Thank you for trusting us, for being part of this journey, and for continuing to believe in what we’re building.
To my OGs—Sarah, Khy, Arrf—we did it. We’re still doing it. Thank you for your loyalty, trust, and support.
To our current team—Kelli, Matt, Gabe, Olivia, Taylor, Erica, Jessica, Kelly, Nathaniel and those who have been part of this journey in previous years. Gabrielle G, Jonathan, Arica, Adrien, Logan, Gabrielle, thank you. To my braiders, estheticians, Taya, Nana, Aubrae, Tan salon workers who never got started (Terri). Every one of you has played a role in making 419 what it is today.
I’m at peace with this decision. It’s not goodbye, just a shift. I know this is necessary for now, and I know God is in all of it.
Much love, and see you in the shop—just maybe a little less often.
Sorry it I missed you in this it’s a lot, I’ve tried to capture a lot in this long but short post.
