The Lantern Sound Recording Rig is a private historical farmhouse recording studio in a nature preserve, offering hourly/daily rates. Located in a 100-year old farmhouse, the facility takes up 8 rooms, 3 floors. There is a 32 input console, and a full compliment of backline/instrumets/gear, microphones,

outboard preamps and processing. Our top specialty is our ability to safely record music made by groups of people performing together at the same time, in the same space. That's THE best way to get the "magic take" that preserves the human element that is so important in recorded music, and with commercial recording studios going out of business, and people cramming their home recording setups into very small spaces, that's not so easy these days. We can do that courtesy of a simple & clean signal path philosophy that spreads across three floors of various rooms, chambers and isolation closets, and we use them all. A core Apple Logic® recording DAW, paired up with a 32-input Allen & Heath console, is fed by a full variety of microphones and mic preamps, vintage drums/amps/instruments, and a 1929 Hazelton Brothers (NYC) baby grand piano. Headphone mixes, sculpted in the analog world on the mixing console, go through the entire house. Quick setups, nice comforts, pleasant people, and fantastic vibes are our trademarks. The LSRR is located less than five minutes from the Hampton Jitney, the Long Island Railroad, and the Long Island Expressway in the Eastern Pine Barrens of LI, NY. It's a super-comfortable secret clubhouse in the woods where music is made, and we think you'll like it here.

I just realized why I rarely post photos from recording sessions here at the LSRR.

My phone gets turned off and put away while we're working here, because I owe the recording artists all of my focus and attention.

I can't believe I didn't figure this out until now. Onwards.

It's time for the periodic lamentation of credits not even being included with release announcements. BTW, this post has NOTHING to do with anything recorded here. At all.

But when announcing releases, include where it was recorded, who mixed it, and if applicable, who mastered it. It's THE biggest way lots of us get more work and remain viable. PLUS us music/recording nerds love knowing at least a little bit of who/what was involved. It may seem trivial to the casual observer, but to us it's neato and ginchy and important!

And if you did all that yourself, CREDIT YOURSELF, FFS.

Lots of artists are doing great things on their own turf, on their own time, with their own gear. It works for Billy Eilish (the things that first got her on the radar were in total home studio productions), it can work for us, too.

Now go credit yourselves. You earned it 😀 :)
