βI just started my first year of teaching and a parent has already contacted admin about me for what I think is a ridiculous reason. On their page, my school posted a "new staff introduction" which included my name and some other info like education, hobbies, and my photo. They didn't tag me in the post, however, a parent of a student in my class looked up my personal Facebook and sent me a friend request.
I felt like this was over the line and opted to decline the request. That's why I already have a complaint lodged against me with admin. The parent thinks I must be hiding something since I didn't accept their request. When I was talking to my mom about this, she was confused as to why I didn't just accept the request. She mentioned that there's nothing on my page that I'd need to hide, and she's right my page is appropriate but this is a boundary I'd like to set with parents. She think I'm making a big deal out of nothing because "It's just Facebook." Now I'm not sure if I made the right choice and could use some unbiased opinions.β
