The Golden Hour Season Four Episode Three was an another wonderful evening of great music on a packed WineCafe Bar patio! The night featured father/son duo Nieves del Norte and the Dan Duffy Orchestra performing Dan’s fantastic original songs. There was also a super cool synchronicity at play: both bands were originally started by the fathers of the band leaders! As a young man, Roy Nieves played accordion with his father in the original Nieves del Norte; now Roy and his son play together under the same band name! And in 1939, Dan Duffy’s father started the original Dan Duffy Orchestra. So amazing to see the family lineage of music at our show last night. Thanks to all for coming out!

We’ve been super busy at the studio lately! On Sunday we hosted our third live recording session with the Kevin Ward Project - very excited by this band and the performances we’re capturing in our little room! Then on Monday, we hosted a horn tracking session for ’s album, which is also sounding very, very good! It may be hot outside, but it’s cool at .studios!

Looking forward to helping these two awesome songwriters get their amazing music on yr stereos! I am thankful to be part of the vibrant and supportive arts scene in Mankato. I've grown exponentially over the past few years, and find myself endlessly inspired to continue improving, experimenting, and pushing myself creatively. I can't imagine producing -- let alone finding the support for -- The Golden Hour Live vinyl compilation. Tyler and I will be at Tune Town's tomorrow for RSD Black Friday with the album & other Golden Hour swag. All proceeds go straight back into the concert series so that we can continue to support our area musicians and make these awesome records! Hope to see ya there!!

Earlier this year, we had the privilege of working with Mika Myron (aka Ohaji) to record an album of his spoken word poetry. Since Mika is an incarcerated individual, we had to record his poetry over the phone, and so began this journey of bringing Mika's story to life. The album is dark yet beautiful, challenging yet inspiring. It was a pleasure to work on this, and we hope you enjoy it. See below for a message from Mika:

"This EP Breathe is about, self actualization & forgiveness. Discovery and then rediscovery. Love and the power of believing in one's self. It was recorded whilst the vocalist was incarcerated. Having worked on his craft for years, he hungered for a way to release his thoughts. By chance, he met the producer/instrumentalist who turned possibility into reality for, he too was enchanted by the verbal arrangement put forth. Then came the need for some sort of visual art to represent the energy. In just a couple phone calls, the artist couldn't have created a better representation of words through visual art. Last but not least, the project manager who made all of this possible. First, by having the connections to make it so but, most importantly, believing in the poet himself.

I hope you enjoy this EP as much as we did making it.

Over the past year, Gold Mine Studios has partnered with the Mankato Area Foundation to turn our annual Golden Hour Concert Series into a non-profit entity. With the Foundation’s help, we have been able to elevate our concert series to a whole new level.

Last year, Gold Mine Studios recorded every Golden Hour performance, and we’ve compiled those recordings into a 13-track vinyl compilation album mixed by Colin Scharf & mastered by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering. A limited run of 300 albums will be available in Fall 2023. The compilation contains live performances from Kaleb Braun-Schulz & the Nightingale Band, Torrid Forest, Silver Summer, Double-Oh!, EZ Jazz, The Ericksons, Given Names, Loadie, Goal Area 51, Onion Bun, J-Mose, Dj Shoba, Liz Draper & Tasha Baron, and Sister Gin
The Golden Hour Live compilation is an incredible document of the amazing original music that was performed at the WineCafe Bar throughout the summer of 2022.

Along with the album, we also have Golden Hour STICKERS and T-SHIRTS! All merchandise will be available over the course of this summer’s concert series as a thank-you gift to donors of the Golden Hour.
