Jay Tilley, Becca Harney and Tice Rust are friends through the Washington, DC area theatre, improv and cosplay scene. This new podcast will explore things they have in common - theatre, improv, cosplay, fitness, comics, movies and TV, and a wide variety of other nonsense. There will even be some fun games and special guests. We hope our podcast will be the new guilty pleasure that you swear to your friends and family you never listen to!
The journey to the creation of Between 2 Butts: The Podcast That Lets Nothing Slip Between The Cracks began in 2010 when Becca and Jay met during a production of the musical The Wedding Singer at Prince William Little Theatre in Manassas, VA, directed by Jay’s wife, Melissa Jo York-Tilley.
Jay and Becca formed an instant friendship, which over the years has grown into not only a great onstage relationship, but a fun offstage one as well. Jay and his “Gal Pal” are like the two kids in the back of the class who should not be sitting together. Just ask Melissa!
In 2013, Jay met Tice at an improv audition for ComedySportz and The Blue Show, and, like Jay and Becca, the two hit it off. They have been performing in ComedySportz and The Blue Show improv shows ever since, while Tice recently began his foray into the scripted theatre scene.
Recently, Tice and Jay began discussing the possibility of doing a podcast together, but who would join them to discuss their favorite topics and have some fun? Jay immediately thought of Becca and felt she and Tice would have the same kind of chemistry that Jay shares with the two of them.
As the will of The Force would have it, Tice and Becca ended up appearing in a murder mystery together in 2019. They worked well together and had dinner with Jay after the show. That night, a new podcast was born.
Credit for the title Between 2 Butts goes to Tice, while the tagline The Podcast That Lets Nothing Slip Between The Cracks was Melissa’s idea. Jay and Becca tend to be the naughty kids and are kind of famous (maybe infamous!) on social media for their “buttstuff” humor while Tice tends to be the voice of reason between them. Hence, Between 2 Butts.
The trio has since teamed up with their theatre friend, Matthew Scarborough -- a talented actor, singer, musician and music director -- who has created some fun music for this podcast. In addition, Melissa, who has directed and worked behind the scenes for numerous theatre productions, is serving as the podcast’s creative consultant!
Jennifer Reitz, another great onstage talent from the Washington, DC area theatre scene as well as a successful on camera actress and model, is using her excellent graphic design skills to create our podcast’s logo!

Tice Rust is an improviser now breaking into scripted theatre. He got his start acting in 48 Hour Film Projects in DC and Baltimore. In one of those DC projects, he met with the Improv Imps and subsequently joined the troupe in 2012. After about a year of performing with the Imps in improv shows throughout the DMV area, he also joined DC ComedySportz, based at the time in Ballston, where he met Jay Tilley. During that time he began experimenting with podcasting, creating It’s Funny ‘Cuz, a podcast examining newspaper comics. He also performed twice in the Capital Fringe Festival, in OK Stupid’s Secret Math Lab (2013) and Decades (2014). After a few more years of performing strictly as an improviser, Tice took a role in Superior Donuts with the Reston Community Players in early 2019 as Kiril. Over the next fall and winter he took part in two murder mystery dinners, Monster Mash Murders and Murder on the Manassas Express with Rooftop Productions.
Matthew Scarborough is thrilled to contribute to his first ever podcast! He has worked with Becca and Jay on a number of community theater productions over the last several years.
