The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released their State Employment and Unemployment Summary for the month of July. The current unemployment rate for Mississippi (as of July 2024) sits at 2.7 percent, a slight fall of 0.1% from the previous reported month (June 2024). The national unemployment rate is 4.3 percent. Mississippi stands at a 1.6 percent decrease from the national unemployment rate.

A walk-through of downtown is required to complete the process. Some of the planners involved are Zoning Director Penny Aguirre, Director of Community Development Jennifer Lay, MMMS Executive Director Jim Miller, and Tiffany Kinslow of Magee.

For nearly a year the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department and School District have been working diligently to place resource officers in the county’s public schools. A memorandum of understanding was recently signed by both parties to accommodate this need.
