The business of Indian Hating is a lucrative one. It’s historically been designed to dehumanize Native people so that it’s easier to take their land. There are many phrases that underscore the deep cruelty of the American Empire toward Indigenous peoples: “Kill the Indian, save the man,” Manifest Destiny, and “Merciless Indian Savages” are a few.

After all, this is our land. Indakiingimin, the very land to which we belong. And to make America, it was important to steal it.

The courtroom is often the place Native people are attacked today.

Join us with The Progressive Magazine, Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, Center for Media and Democracy, and WORT FM at The Barrymore Theatre for a screening of Bad Faith Documentary. Following the film, we will have a discussion with award-winning author Nancy MacLean.

Bad Faith reveals how Christian Nationalist leaders have spread fear and anger for decades, distorting political issues into Biblical battles between good and evil. Financed through the secretive Council for National Policy, Christian Nationalists have succeeded in taking over the Republican Party, turning it into a powerful weapon to demolish democracy from within. Discover the origins of this organized grasp for power and the grassroots coalition of secular and interfaith leaders bravely confronting the unholy forces threatening democracy.

There's still time to get your tickets for tomorrow night (10/15) here: https://barrymorelive.com/event/bad-faith-documentary/

Harris’s refusal to shift from Biden’s near-total backing of Israel’s war has left Palestinian Americans and their supporters seeing little daylight between Democrats and Republicans, prompting more than 100,000 Democratic primary voters to cast ‘uncommitted’ ballots in frustration over Israel's assault on Gaza.

The price of housing in many areas of the United States is too high for many Americans, and in some areas the demand for affordable housing outstrips the supply. There is a heated debate as to how, exactly, to target this crisis.

Some would like to address the shortage of housing using the basic economic theory of supply and demand. Others believe that in order to make housing affordable, it is necessary to remove housing from a purely laissez-faire economic dynamic, and provide some guardrails to prevent out-of-control prices.

We need a sound national housing policy based on human need and our available resources.

It might not seem possible for former President Donald Trump to ratchet up his inflammatory rhetoric any further. But during the first and perhaps only debate between him and Vice President Kamala Harris as candidates in the 2024 Presidential election, he managed to do exactly that.

“In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs, the people that came in,” he now infamously said. “They’re eating the cats. . . .they’re eating the pets of the people who live there.”

Fact-checkers quickly clarified that no, immigrants are not eating the cats and dogs of the good people of Springfield, Ohio. Trump’s dubious claim originated with social media posts claiming Haitian immigrants were going after local ducks and house cats.

The historic, first-generation candidate isn’t fighting Trump on immigration policy. She’s echoing him.

Shortly after scholar Nikole Hannah-Jones’s “1619 Project” was launched in 2019, the Pulitzer Center announced that it was partnering with the project to create curricular materials for public school use. The initial response was nearly completely positive, with more than 3,500 classrooms in all fifty states opting to use the lessons.

As the momentum built, the right took notice, and conservative historians and organizations like the Heritage Foundation and the Manhattan Institute set out to stop schoolhouse discussions of race, racism, and the ongoing impact of chattel slavery.

A new book explores what’s actually going on in public schools—and it’s not CRT.
