Hello Source readers,

This is Aaron Rubin, and I would like to introduce myself as the new correspondent for the paper beginning next year. I am a Madison native who has been with the Source's publisher, ShorePublishing, for nearly three years and was formerly the correspondent for the Valley Courier (Essex, Chester, and Deep River) and the recently closed Courier (East Haven and North Haven). This marks shift from two very different coverage areas into this new one and will require an education on the towns of Killingworth and Madison and its many affairs. Given this, I am open to the story all of you have that your fellow readers and community members should know about, and that I should know about, too. Please do not hesitate to inform me of town-related issues that could make for interesting stories, important meetings, and town-wide cultural events. Crews are still working to restore power to residents after the recent storm. Power lines fell all over town and Madison Police Chief Jack Drumm captured this video on Chestnut Hill Road during the height of the storm. Drumm said a power line hit the road and began to spark, prompting several 911 calls.

The town turned out in Red, White and Blue, to cheer on Madison’s Olympians, Kiley McKinnon, Zachary Donahue, and Mac Bohonnon

A change is in the air at Madison Art Cinemas, a new LED electronic marquee sign is being installed.

People gather for a Vigil for Victims of Gun Violence on Dec. 17 on the Madison Town Green. Attendees light candles as the bells toll at the First Congregational Church of Madison and the names of the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting are read aloud.

The North Madison Volunteer Fire Company does a live burn of a simulated bedroom to show just how quickly fire can spread and the importance of getting out of a burning building or home immediately. The simulation is part of a range of Fire Prevention Week activities following the theme “Every Second Counts – Plan 2 Ways Out”. Be sure to turn on the volume. The loud noise halfway through the video is the sound of the television set imploding.
