Curb is a lifestyle magazine produced by students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Our 2021 editorial philosophy: Out Of The Dark

Some of our most important moments happen in the dark: the peaceful, the tragic, the joyful. We work to reveal how the people of Wisconsin embrace the dark, expose injustices in the shadows and highlight the unseen with a celebration of the darkness. In this issue of Curb, we will explore the stories rooted in the dark – both literally and metaphorically.

Challenge: Explore all the local traditional German Restaurants in Madison!

Here we have Prost!, a newly opened beer hall on 401 E Washington Ave. Inside there are long tables, decorative bars, and other architectural structures resembling traditional German architecture.

Excited to officially introduce to you, Curb Fusion! 🌀

Over the past three and a half months, 25 students in the worked together to create not only this impressive print magazine, but a full website as well.

This edition of Curb highlights the richness of perspective and what can happen when we come together. We both celebrate and scrutinize the diversity in experience found throughout our state and examine how our differences fuse our path forward.

In the process of curating the cover of the magazine, photographer Kalli and production associate Maddie worked together to take photos of UW cross-country runner Rowen. While the first shoot was at sunrise on a cold and wintery day — roughly 20 degrees — we ended up not using that cover. Maddie and Kalli then went on a solo photo shoot to understand which angles and motions they were looking for to exemplify "Out of the Dark." After the solo photo shoot, the two knew what they wanted and Rowen obliged to doing another photo shoot in the afternoon near sunset near Lake Wingra in Madison, Wisconsin. 📷: Kalli Anderson
