Jess is a teacher at heart and a natural leader. Her goal is to leave sparkles of positivity wherever she goes. The practice of finding joy hasn't always been easy - from loving and leaving an addict, to finding self-love and new love, to navigating a nightmare of an adoption process - she is stronger for enduring challenges and is finally living her own dream life. Most of her time is spent with her son, but her life wouldn’t be complete without also contributing to the field of education in various ways. In Ep 54, hosts interview Coach Tim Decorah. He opens up about his journey with generalized anxiety disorder and how he has learned to overcome its debilitating symptoms. Tim has been dealing with anxiety since childhood, and while relationships and sports initially helped him cope, he eventually turned to alcohol to suppress his feelings as he grew older.
Tim reflects on how society often stigmatizes men for showing vulnerability and seeking help, portraying it as a sign of weakness. However, Tim's turning point came when he realized the importance of addressing his anxiety in a healthy and proactive manner. By sharing his own struggles with mental health, Tim hopes to inspire and help others who may be going through similar challenges.

Today I (Shannon) spent a lot of time reflecting on the past 9 years I have been lucky enough to celebrate Mother’s day. This day hasn’t always been a happy day for me and I even wondered out loud to Ben “why is this a day we (the Prosch 5) celebrate?” This day is hard for Ben, as he has lost his Mother. This day is hard for me, as I remember the pain this day brought me before my 3 miracles. I have very dear friends who are still struggling w/infertility and knowing their pain on this day makes me sad. I love my kids everyday, I appreciate that I get to be a mom everyday, I don’t need a day labeled “Mother’s day” to remind myself of this. I’m sure all those that have lost a mom, all those that have lost a child too soon, all those that have struggled (or are still struggling) to become a mom, all those that have chosen adoption, and all those that are single moms and doing it on their own, also don’t need a day to remind them. My kids showered me w/breakfast, gifts, snuggles and love. We spent the day doing my favorite activity, boating. I am lucky- I still have my mom, my aunts, my friends, my husband and my 3 kids! But seriously can we change the name to “bad ass women day” so that we can all celebrate?

It wasn’t long ago that both Shannon and Jess were the ones longing to be mothers. Miracles happen everyday, and we are so grateful for the gifts we have been given 🙏🏼

Words from a couple years ago:

Oooooo, Mother’s Day - a day that comes with lots of feelings for many.

First, and most importantly, I need to acknowledge the feelings of APPRECIATION and GRATITUDE for the ROCK of a mother I was gifted. If you know her - you know exactly what I mean. She is the definition of what a mother should be to a child. She has given me pure unconditional love. I am so very blessed.

In addition, I hit the jackpot with my mother in law. She loves me as her own and would do anything for family. I am so very blessed.

I’ve been lucky enough to physically be with my mothers on Mother’s Day, but that didn’t come without some heartache.

For a few years, it was really rough. I felt so bad for myself because I wasn’t a mom. I’d usually cry in the morning, and then I’d carry on with my day, but I took the sadness with me in a way. Over time, I learned to feel that sadness and then release it (crying, it helps - especially shower crying). On some level, we actually do get to CHOOSE how we feel. It was about three or four years ago that I decided I wasn’t going to carry that sadness with me on Mother’s Day. I was going to feel it, release it, and then notice all the JOY around me - I found that it was everywhere if I chose to notice it. It wasn’t always easy, but it was a choice. I chose to notice that I was so very blessed.

Today, on my first Mother’s Day, I woke up to a smiling baby who will call me mom. I am so very blessed.

I still took a moment to shed some tears this morning (in the shower of course) - for all of you out there wishing to be a mom. I see you. I feel you. I am you. My wish for you is that you are able to find some JOY today and notice where you too are so very blessed.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all the mamas of the world 💓✨ And sending much LOVE & LIGHT to those hoping, wishing, and praying for their first Mother’s Day.

With love and compassion,
Jess
