Apple Digital Masters
Mastered For iTunes isn't a gimmick even though the name sounded like one, and it now has a new name:
Apple Digital Masters.
This process means that the data compressed audio that is eventually streamed by the listener (currently 256kpbs AAC) was encoded from a source that was higher than CD quality, giving a better end result than using what's considered a standard 16-bit/44.1k CD quality WAV.
This also means that since 2012, Apple has been accumulating high resolution master files for some releases that I believe will soon be available to be streamed directly in Apple Music (similar to @TIDAL), instead of the lower quality data compressed audio we can stream now. Netflix is offering 4k video, why are we still accepting data compressed audio?
This practice is NOT just exclusive to Apple Music though. Nearly all (if not all) data compressed audio streaming will benefit from being encoded from a higher quality source.
The problem is that distributors like CD Baby, TuneCore, and TheThe Orchard haven't put any effort into allowing independent artists and bands to upload anything better than a CD quality WAV (16-bit/44.1k). CD Baby does allow you to pay for and maintain a 2nd version of the release and upload higher quality WAV files that were "Mastered For iTunes" (now Apple Digital Masters), but for most independent artists/bands, this is not practical.
If you're an independent artist/band, please reach out to your distributor and ask them to start accepting master files that are better than CD quality by default. There is no need to reduce your masters down to CD quality before getting data compressed a 2nd time.
Distrokid is one exception and does accept higher resolution files by default. However, they also accept LOWER quality mp3 files that will get converted to mp3 and low resolution files A SECOND TIME which is bad. So until Distrokid is more forthcoming about their process behind the scenes, I think they are also not following best practices for your

iZotope RX Cassette Tape Dropout Repair
Doing some extensive restoration to a cassette tape from the late 1900s that was transferred to digital for eventual remastering.
Sometimes the cassette tape is the only known source of a project to remaster from, and iZotope RX helps make it possible.
This tape had many tiny dropouts in either the left or right channel and RX can mask and fix these dropouts extremely well. It's basically like photoshop for audio.
