MCSO DEPUTY’S EFFORTS PREVENT TRAGEDY
Mount Clemens, MI – September 12, 2024, at approximately 2:18PM, Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to southbound Gratiot Avenue in Mount Clemens for a silver GMC Sierra driving erratically near Church Street.
Deputies encountered the vehicle on southbound Gratiot near Remick Drive. They activated lights and sirens. The driver, a 63-year-old male, failed to stop, continuing southbound at approximately 5 miles per hour. Deputies pulled alongside the driver, who appeared to be in a daze, unable to comprehend the requests.
Eventually the driver of the truck rolled down his window and briefly hit his brakes. Deputy Miron, who had been in the passenger side of the patrol vehicle, was able to exit the window of the Sheriff’s SUV and climb into the truck while the vehicles continued traveling on Gratiot.
Once Deputy Miron was inside the truck, she was able to stop the vehicle. She then called a family member to confirm the driver’s medical condition.
Clinton Township Fire Department arrived on the scene and began treating the driver. He was then transported to an area hospital for further medical care.
“I commend Deputy Miron for putting herself in harm’s way to help a citizen in need and protect other drivers on the roadway,” stated Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham. “Due to her quick thinking and selfless actions, she safely ended what could have been a tragic situation.”
