๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฒ The Gambia national team has not played a friendly match in over 2-3 years. To build a strong squad and improve both weaknesses and strengths, regular friendly games are essential. Itโ€™s impossible to develop a competitive team with just one day of full training before a match.

The GFF claims they have no money for friendlies, the Ministry says the same, and meanwhile, the government is spending millions on political rallies.

Senegal, on the other hand, is playing two high-level friendlies in June against England and Ireland. How can we expect to compete with them when they have the opportunity to correct their mistakes while we donโ€™t?

The blame falls on both the Ministry and the Football Federation. You canโ€™t build a strong team without proper preparation. The players must also take responsibility, as they are professionals, but without structured preparation, even the best players will struggle.

If this lack of investment continues, The Gambia will always be at a disadvantage on the international stage. Change is neededโ€”urgently.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฒ The Gambia Player Ratings (1-10)
1. E. Jarju โ€“ 5.5/10
Solid effort with a crucial save in the second half. Not entirely to blame for the goals.

2. Joseph Ceesay โ€“ 7/10
Gave 100% on the pitch with an assist for Minteh. A rock in both defense and attack.

3. Omar Colley โ€“ 5.5/10
Our key defender whose experience calls for more leadershipโ€”especially when 2-0 up.

4. Momodou โ€œLionโ€ Njie โ€“ 5.5/10
Won his duels and had a decent game, though his defensive chemistry with Colley & Sinyan needs work. That penalty was avoidable.

5. Sheriff Sinyan โ€“ 6/10
Great to have him back. He showed top defender potential despite some match fitness issues.

6. B. Barry โ€“ 6/10
Was starting to control the midfield before an early exit at 65โ€™. A decision that disrupted our rhythm.

7. Bajo โ€“ 5.5/10
A promising partnership with Barry. A slow start in the first half gave way to a more confident performance later.

8. A. Fadera โ€“ 6.5/10
Created the first penalty and assisted the guest goal with energetic runs on the left. His early substitution was a mistake.

9. Musa Barrow โ€“ 8.5/10 (MOTM)
Stepped up with 2 goals and almost sealed the game. A pass to secure the win wouldโ€™ve been the perfect finish but went for the hatrick when we were 4v1 should have passed his teammates.

10. Y. Minteh โ€“ 7/10
Struggled early but turned it around in the second half with a beautiful goal.

11. A. Sowe โ€“ 6/10
Gives 100% effort but isnโ€™t yet fully in sync with the national team like at club level.

Subs & Coach:
โ€ข A. Sanyang โ€“ 5/10: A top talent who just didnโ€™t click today.
โ€ข E. Darboe โ€“ 4.5/10: Has the quality when focusedโ€”letโ€™s back him up instead of insulting him he knows what to do.
โ€ข E. Adams โ€“ 5/10: Might have deserved a starting spot.
โ€ข A. Ceesay: On a hot streak with an assist & goal in his last 2 games.
โ€ข A. Jatta: Limited game time.
โ€ข Coach J.M โ€“ 4/10: Substitutions were off; shouldโ€™ve closed out the game when up 2-0.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Sheriff Sinyan and Abubacarr Barry both had solid performances, though each has room for growth in different areas.

Sheriff Sinyan was calm and composed throughout the match, showcasing his maturity in defense. His positioning was generally good, and he made some crucial interceptions that helped maintain our lead. However, there were a few moments where he couldโ€™ve been more aggressive in pushing forward or organizing the defense, but overall, his performance was reliable.

Abubacarr Barry also showed great potential, especially in his work rate. He was involved in both defensive and attacking phases and contributed well to the teamโ€™s dynamics. His movement off the ball was good, but at times, his decision-making in the final third could have been sharper. Nevertheless, he gave his best and helped drive the team forward when needed.

Both players showed commitment and played important roles, but they can continue to develop their consistency and impact, especially in more critical moments of the game. They are definitely valuable assets to the team.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Dear Musa Barrow,

We are incredibly pleased with your performance today. You, alongside Omar Colley, are two of our most experienced players and leaders. When we lead 2-0, itโ€™s crucial that you take charge and guide the younger players. You should remind them to stay calm, hold the ball, and manage the time effectively. Thereโ€™s no need to keep pushing for attack after attack when weโ€™re already in control. You stepped up and delivered, as you always do for The Gambia, and we deeply appreciate your dedication and leadership.

Regarding penalties, itโ€™s a moment of truth โ€“ either you score or you lose. Only the brave step up, and we know you have the courage to take on such responsibility but also try and consider your team mates to have a go if you feel lack on confidence.

Thank you for everything you do for our team.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Dear Omar Colley,

You are our captain, our leader, and the most experienced player on the team. This was a must-win game, and we were leading 2โ€“0 at one pointโ€”an important advantage. However, our squad is very young and still gaining experience. In such moments, your leadership should shine through to guide these players.

For the past 5โ€“8 years, you have been our best defender, and your contributions are invaluable. Today, though, we believe that both you and the entire team had the potential to secure the victory.

We now look forward to the next game with renewed determination.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Landing Ceesay ๐Ÿ—ฃโ€ Coach Jonny got it all wrong with his first substitution
The game was spoiled with the introduction of Ebrima Darboe and Abdoulie Sanyang to replace Abubakary Barry and Alieu Fadera.

This is where the Coach got it all wrong. Because their introduction exposed our midfield for Kenya to take over which they did.

For our defence line, it has always been our problem to defend set pieces. Since the 2021 AFCON qualifiers, almost 80% to 85% of goals we conceded are set pieces.

Coach Jonny and his staff should definitely work on that because it is costing us a lot.โ€

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Gambiaโ€”This was our home game. Who should be held responsible for this resultโ€”the players or the ministry and federation?

Do you think we would have lost this game in Bakau, or do you place the blame on the players for failing to defend a 2-0 lead?

What are your thoughts?
