The Moose has learned that a helicopter has crashed in West Carthage in the area of Bridge Street at about 11:20 AM.. WWNY . UPDATE: the pilot of the chopper died at Carthage Area Hospital. The police have not officially released the name of the pilot.

Here is another point of view from Wednesday night’s storm that blasted through the Boonville-Oneida County Fair.
Although it’s not included with this clip, several fairgoers and officials are talking about a lightning strike that occurred during the storm. There is no official confirmation yet of a lightning bolt that struck somewhere on the grounds, but officials from the fair office said if it didn’t hit the grounds, it was “mighty close.”
In terms of wind damage, the fair office says a few easy-up tents were tossed around, but no other major damage or injuries have been reported as of Thursday morning.

NWS ALERT: A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT SOUTHEASTERN LEWIS COUNTY THROUGH *615 PM EDT (this was updated from the previous time of 515 PM EDT)…
At 422 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Whetstone Gulf State Park, or 16 miles northwest of Boonville, moving east at 20 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph, pea size hail, and torrential rainfall.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.
Locations impacted include...Lowville, Whetstone Gulf State Park, Watson, Martinsburg, Lyonsdale, Greig, Lyons Falls, Turin, Brantingham, and Sperryville.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

The portion of State Route 26, which was closed down between State Route 294 intersection and the four corners in Ava, NY, has re-opened. Carl Trainor and his HO-scale model carnival display at the 135th annual Boonville Oneida County Fair! Located inside of the Exhibit Hall, this is the 30th-year Mr. Trainor, who has been a local fair advocate since childhood, has displayed his collection. The display itself resembles much like the 2023 fair, but with most equipment resembling the 1950’s and 1960’s era.
