Ringmaster review of MK Ultra's "S/T" LP!

Instinctive, feral and loaded with in the face belligerence; that pretty much sums up the self-titled debut album from US outfit MK ULTRAS. It is one of those encounters that gnaw at captivation with uncompromising rapacity, a vital protagonist for classic punk appetites.

Hailing from Cleveland, the MK ULTRAS’ sound is unsurprisingly rooted in the cities’ Clevo-punk origins but a sound that is equally garage and beat punk infused. The band itself consists of vocalist/drummer Emmett O’Connor, who is also one half of ‘hi-fi organ punk’ duo ARCHIE AND THE BUNKERS with his brother Cullen and of psych rock ‘n’ rollers JAGUAR 777 with Kacie Marie, vocalist/guitarist Dillon and vocals/bass/organist Billmike. They are a trio with a disregard for the expected and processed, a collection of instinct fuelled musicians with a sound to match.

It is an organic infestation that immediately leaps from the album and first track Target Killer, the song a wild nag of riffs and rhythmic incitement with just as impulsive and invasive vocals. Dissension and accusation soaks every essence of the track as equally virulent energy and enterprise, the EP opener one infectious rock ‘n’ roll tirade.

The following and equally riveting Terminal Arcade Love is just as dextrous in temptation and trespass, its cunning hooks and rapacious beats almost pugilistic like in movement and guile. As its predecessor and those to come, it is also incitement for keen participation, something that Your Face uncages within its pop punk/new wave cured punk uproar.

Nostalgia aligns with fresh endeavour across the song and album alike, and brings another refreshing and welcome harassing in the shape of You Say. It is a song that prowls ears compared to its speedster companions though it too erupts in robust vigour while drawing on its discontent with an untamed RAMONES-esque breath while Run Away In My Brain with seemingly similar inspiration breaks into contagion loaded contemplation that again easily orchestrated keen involvement.

The pair of Listen To Me with its snarling punk ‘n’ roll irritancy and Fading Away through its crabby dispute only evoked lustier union between song, ears and contribution. The latter evokes a CLASH like grievance in its uproar that only added to instinctive involvement, indeed an impulse the album provoked from start to finish with License To Steal a final moment of compelling persuasion. Like a midnight stalker, the song prowls and courts the imagination, its shadows lit by sax intimation and body shaped by a predacious swing. Menace and seduction ooze from its untamed flirtations and creative theatre, the track glorious manna for our addictions and a superb close to one thrilling encounter.

MK ULTRAS are rock ‘n’ roll at its untamed and organic best and their album a feast that no classic punk instinct should be allowed to squander.

The MK ULTRAS album is released September 13th via Big Neck Records with pre-ordering available @ https://bigneckrecords1.bandcamp.com/album/s-t-2

New album from S**tdels. This is already the third LP and there was also a single, I like them all, but this new one might be my favorite.
Here is the current lineup: Kiley Wells on bass ( Part Time Filth, Schizos ), Ryan Sweeney on drums ( Sleeveens/Cheap Time and head of Sweet Times Records ), Jordan Wayne on guitar/vocals/band founder.
The sound has changed a bit, the music itself not so much, the garage/RnR/budget rock/punk that was really started remains, but there is no longer the primal chaos like before, or at least less. Many better-than-best Estrus Records releases come to mind: The Mummies, The Makers, Supercharger, etc. Estrus also recently published a book about them under the title Estrus: Shovelin' The S**t Since 1987 .
It's a very good record, and one of my current favorite labels released a record with the boss of my other current favorite label playing drums. These are interesting things.

Nervous Tick and the Zipper Lips review by MRR!

NERVOUS TICK is a mutant and makes music for other mutants. The power of hardcore, the musical melody of power pop, some sounds of synth punk/new wave or egg-punk. I have a hunch that NERVOUS TICK may just be the mutant younger brother of Doc Dart of the CRUCIF**KS. This was a joy to listen to.

Review of MK Ultras!!!!!

As a preamble to the release of this first album , the Cleveland gang has published a cassette version containing 5 tracks, just to give a little idea of their impact!

And this one is huge!

Of the 8 tracks on the album, Mk Ultra proves that they are the worthy heirs of the best and most angry representatives of the Cleveland Punk Scene (imagine Pagans on P*P or remember that one of the prominent gangs in the area was called The AK-47's)...

The closing track with its creeping riff and noisy-free sax reconnects us with the Stooges before the parody and shows that these Mk Ultras are not here to joke around!

It reminds me of the first Von Zippers album: not for the style but for the impact of a group that comes out full blast with an album that really rocks!

As this delicate and tasteful cover suggests, MK Ultras are a band that likes to rock! The songs are most often fast and sharp, tense and brutal but always catchy...

There are also some mid-tempos on this album to make it more exciting for the listener… with some more creepy and dark stuff.

Maximum impact!

Quick and so good!

"That night in Garut was one of my favorite Battlebeats shows, especially since Rully, our sound engineer, captured it perfectly, and despite Dwey's absence, Ferdy stepped in remarkably, delivering an incredible 8-minute guitar solo on "I'm Losing Control" to buy time for Muchos Libre, who were running late. Fun times!"

Debut LP from a husband-wife RnR/punk duo from Washington DC, twenty songs in less than half an hour. The musical ensemble consists of a guitar, a snare drum and a standing drum on which a snare drum is taped. The music is a mixture of '50s/'60s Rock n Roll, '70s punk and '90s garage. Sorry, it's a perfect mix. At first, a less noisy and chaotic Tunnel Of Love came to my mind, but after a few songs I realized that it reminded me more of Andy Macbain's post- Tunnel Of Love band, The Monsieurs , but I read somewhere about them that the Ramones and The Gories' adopted child would be just like that, or something similar. That's true too.
It's a very, very, very good record, it's in my 2024 TOP10, that's for sure, and my opinion has been strengthened again that women are the best drummers in this style!
