On this day in 1941, Japan launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, taking the lives of 2,403 Americans — including 1,114 sailors and Marines aboard the USS Arizona, where they remain eternally at rest. We honor their courage, their sacrifice, and the families who still carry their memory.
In our latest issue of Veterans Life Magazine, we share the extraordinary story of Colorado sailor Glen Stenson — a man shaped by hardship long before the war and compelled to serve after Pearl Harbor alongside his father and brother, who also answered the call.
His service took him from the Dust Bowl plains to the Pacific, where he served as a Navy corpsman aboard the USS Tranquility, a 700-bed hospital ship in the South Pacific, where he helped care for survivors of the USS Indianapolis, one of the Navy’s worst wartime tragedies
Glen’s story is one of grit, duty, loss, and extraordinary resilience, and we are deeply honored to share it.

Welcome home, sailor — and thank you for your courage, service and sacrifice!
