The Ursuline Sisters founded the school in 1924 on the 48-acre campus on Lexington Road — which the sisters purchased in 1877, according to a press release from the school.

Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre celebrated a special liturgy Sept. 25 to mark the anniversary.

These are our featured student art submissions that share depictions of the Guardian Angels.

Youth who are high school age and younger are invited to submit original visual art to be featured in the monthly “Saints for Kids” section of Youth Focus. The upcoming deadline to submit is October 3, and the subject of the artwork is St. John Paul II.

Today, October 1, is the feast day of St. Thérèse of Lisieux. She is a Doctor of the Church and a French Carmelite nun who is known for her "little way" of holiness and trust in the Lord. She is popularly known as the "Little Flower."

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Molly Thompson died Sept. 25. She was 85 and in her 64th year of religious life.

Sister Thompson was born in Springfield, Ky., and graduated from Nazareth College and Spalding University. She ministered in education in Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee.

Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre has made the following official assignments, effective Oct. 1, 2024.

Other appointments include:
Very Reverend David J. Carr will serve as associate rector of The Shrine of Saint Martin of Tours, coinciding with the termination of his responsibilities at St. Boniface Church.

Rev. Silvio J. Fonseca Martinez will serve as associate pastor of Holy Spirit Church in Jamestown, Ky.; Holy Redeemer Church in Greensburg, Ky.; and Good Shepherd Church in Columbia, Ky. He has also been assigned to providing Spanish-speaking ministries to various churches.

The 17th annual Salute to THE GAME luncheon hosted by the Catholic Education Foundation raised a record amount of $650,000 Sept. 26, $50,000 more than last year’s event.

The rivalry game will be played at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at St. Xavier High School.

🗓: The Archdiocese of Louisville Ministry Institute will offer a variety of faith formation classes this fall. The next class is Oct. 7 on the topic: “Listen, Say Yes, then Go and Tell.”

St. Albert was named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School — one of seven Kentucky schools to earn the distinction — on Sept. 23 by the U.S Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.

St. Albert was the only school in Jefferson County selected for the distinction.

In the days following the historic 2021 tornado that devastated communities across western Kentucky and totaled Resurrection Catholic Church in Dawson Springs, Bishop William F. Medley of Owensboro was often asked whether the parish would ever rebuild its church.

Until recently, St. Edward Church in Jeffersontown had just one couple able to serve as catechists to the parish’s large Spanish-speaking population.

In the last four months, 11 Spanish speakers at St. Edward have been formed as catechists and another eight are in formation.

Sister Rhodes grew up at the old St. Columba Church in Louisville, Ky., and graduated from Presentation Academy.
