It rarely happens but when it does it’s terrifying. Found her under her mom and she was gone! Started reviving her thinking it’s not going to help but after some time it did, she had a faint gasp for air then another and then she slowly came back. Of course the puppy I was looking at with the most pleased eye.

It happened a couple weeks ago, and she is doing good. Moments like this will make make my own life shorter from anxiety

For quite a while, we've known that surface can/ may affect incidences of Hip Displaysia in dogs starting as early as birth.

This study points to some actual, factual support for that.

We've used fleece bedding for years and make sure other slippery surfaces are limited to socialization periods that are relatively short.

If your newborns are scrambling around in a slippery pool or floor, change it up. Your whole goal as breeders is to make sure you can never see paw pads up or feet straight behind them in the first several weeks of life.

Evan was my best dog show side kick this year! We drove thousands of miles together and he never complained, enjoyed the long rides, hotel stays and enjoyed dog shows! He won some ribbons himself startig in PeeWee class and showing his big dogs! We bith Championed dogs out in conformation and got multiple performance titles as well. He is already asking for next show we’re going too and I can’t wait as well ❤️

Leave the sport no worse than you found it.

The number of champions finished or ribbons earned is not the true measure of being a successful breeder.

Some of the breed’s most important and influential dogs do not have the prefix Ch. before their names.

Look to the grandparents!

You don’t need to be a “big” kennel to be a great breeder or have a far-reaching impact on the breed.

You can never outrun a problem - it will always catch up with you. Stand and face it before it overtakes you.

Learn to see and appreciate quality in all families.

Selection is what separates great breeders from good ones.

Study a pedigree for its lessons about consistency, dominance, key/benign individuals.

Know as many of the individuals in the pedigree as you possibly can through personal contact with them.

Pictures lie!

Don’t fault judge at the expense of virtues.

Never give up virtues when doing a breeding. The breed’s future depends on the preservation of virtues.

Breeding and culling for health and temperament are the responsibilities of every serious breeder.

Line breed, but know when it is time for a judicious outcross.

A breeder is part artist, part scientist.

Know what you can and can’t live with when it comes to virtues and faults.

In order to establish a line, have a picture of your perfect collie firmly etched in your mind and follow it to your goals. Pictures - males and females.

Look to breed type to type when outcrossing.

Puppy development differs from family to family. Study your family to understand its specific maturation process and pattern.

Cultivate patience; individual dogs often don’t reach their full potential until they are three years of age.

In brood bi***es, a good doer is just as important as a good dog.

Most of all, practice courtesy and respect.

We actually did make it to Orlando to AKC National Championship by Royal Canin! It was nice to see huge entries from other breed and their specialities, although I haven’t had a chance to see all the breeds I was hoping for. It was the biggest Open show I’ve seen to date with 76 entries. Heike came back with BOS and we headed to Daytona to look at the Ocean before coming back home

Yesterday we learned about a huge blow to the breed. We discovered UKC announced breed standard changes to Presa Canario!!! Breed standards should never be changed unless there is an actual need to fix wrong wording coming of inaccurate translation. Changing a breed standard is changing the breed.

It wasn’t done in a professional manner too. Mask is referred to as fault when reaching less then half of the face. How do we define face in breed standard? Half the muzzle? Weight is much higher than in FCI standard - why? Panda color (yikes!!! What is panda color in profesionalndesfriptionnof the breed!) is a dq… you mean piebald? Wasn’t spots on the body self explanatory? Length of body set at 20% longer than hight in the withers. Breed standard aka for 18-20 it’s important to add the 18 and not make it seam the breed needs to be long as a freight train. Croup is higher then withers but dq for to high. How to high is to high? Dq for to strength hindquarters (they use legs… really). What breed standards do it in this manner?

But most important thing is who instigated those changes? All people involved highly in UKC conformation and performance events were shocked. We don’t have a breed Club with UKC. Breeders didn’t unite to sit and talk the importance of introducing changes. Somebody made a decision to change the breed and it seams as if it was made as a whim of one party!!!

I hope we get answers from UKC!

Write to UKC with questions. Protect our breed!

We already had it destroyed when FCI started to change breed standard. FCI was finally forced to remove changes they made and accept original breed standard and now somebody used parts of this inaccurate breed standard to push them in UKC: we need answers and we need to stop it. If there is a need to change breed standard we need a committee who will work on this and make it in professional manner

Down the memory lane! Winter in Poland, some 14 years ago. Ch Garrotte de Rey Gladiador, Ch Tobatacaya de Rey Gladiador and Ch Bronca de Rey Gladiador
