In the beginning, my time with horses was pure joy, unstructured, and authentic.

There was no formula, no technique, just the simple magic of being together. But as life progressed, I became shaped by structure, dogma, and technique.

These weren’t inherently wrong, but they often created boxes for both me and my horses.

Now, as I come full circle, I find myself letting go of the rigidity. I’m stepping into a place of artistic horsemanship, where connection and conversation take precedence over perfection. My horses are no longer bound by technique—they’re my partners in a dance, a beautiful exchange of energy and presence.

This journey isn’t linear, and it isn’t about achieving perfection. It’s about letting go of perfectionism to discover something deeper: a shared moment, an authentic connection, and a profound sense of freedom.

Technique may guide us, but it’s temporary. Ultimately, we let it dissolve into feeling, energy, and the artistry of simply being.

We have a special invitation for you!

Each month we organize Circles of Sharing - an online event that offers an open-hearted space where self-awareness and honesty are celebrated.

Our priority is to generate a coherent space where people share and listen from the heart and together we receive each other in the absence of judgment.

Our next Circle is scheduled for Sunday, February 23th at 11 am PST.
you can RSVP via this link:
https://www.intuitivelearningfoundation.org/sharingcircles

Each Welcome Circle offers a brief space of silence to open the event, followed by a short passage and seed question read by one of our facilitators.

Each member of the circle will be welcome to share their reflection - some will be prompted by the seed question, others will share from their heart in a different way.
Some participants may choose to pass and not speak at all. The value of these circles is presence, listening, hearing and learning, side-by-side.

I wonder if we're at a point where we can take the word ‘possibility’, which is amazing and infinite, and actually start talking about probability, right?

Because once you recognize there's no boxes, well, then it's pretty likely you're going to create something different, right? There's a high probability that when we feel our own hearts, that we're going to create something new and heartful.

Growing up, I often felt the weight of expectations, to fit into boxes that didn’t feel like me. But the horses never saw those boxes. They didn’t care about how people thought I should be or how human brains 'should' work.

Horses taught me something profound, that those boxes don’t exist. That they’re a human invention.

With them, I learned that I could create a world that’s authentic to me, a life that isn’t bound by imposed rules or expectations. Horses live in the moment, seeing us for who we truly are and they gave me the space to grow into myself and the courage to believe in possibilities outside the 'traditional'.

Episode 22 - Beyond the Box: How Horses Walk us Home

In her book, The Tao of Equus, author Linda Kohanov shares her personal journey, revealing that it wasn’t until she fully embraced the wisdom of the horse that she finally felt comfortable being human. With this revelation as a springboard, Episode 22 weaves together, strand by strand, a beautiful story of what it means to be human.

As humans, each of us has the innate capacity to sense truth. In the absence of conflict or resistance, the doorway to wisdom, clarity, and the next possibility opens, and an ancient, lost language re-awakens within us. But somewhere along the line, we forgot.

Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of years ago, our ancestors began building societies. Alongside these advancements came rules and structures that gradually confined humans within societal "boxes," dictating what is considered “right” and “normal.” And eventually, we also began creating our own individual boxes, layering them one within another and burying our true selves beneath countless layers of confinement.

Horses, on the other hand, do not recognize boxes. They see straight through the layers of “stuff” we have accumulated and reveal to us the truth: there are no boxes. They guide us into awareness of how deeply we have sheltered ourselves from ourselves. We are then left with the work of shedding the layers and uncovering our authenticity, as well as supporting others on their own journeys of self-reclamation. Horses have generously agreed to be our guides on this journey, to walk us home, if we let them.

When we compete, we’re actually engaging with our inner child. Also, there is a shared agreement that provides us with a common direction to aim for.

Competition is not about being on opposite ends—it’s more like we’re at different points on a circle, connected by a loop that brings us back together. When we all agree there’s a common goal, competition itself isn’t inherently good or bad; it simply has its own elements, like everything else in life.

And I think that’s the essence of what competition truly is. It’s a part of our social structure and a way we integrate with one another. Competition, in its essence, plays a critical role in connection and growth and is a necessary part of our natural development.

I'm so curious about the ripples that could be created if there were a space to share perspectives and stories from the heart of the horse nation—their kindness and generosity toward us—within the conventional equestrian world. It's a big curiosity of mine, and something I would deeply love to contribute to.

The real skill of it is to be self-aware and know where you want to be at that moment.

However, recovery is also a really important part of that ability to manage your energy. It's just that whole awareness and how it works and how you can maintain a full tank, so to speak, of mental, physical, emotional energy for the moment.

And then also manage it within the environment because there's a gazillion things coming at you and within you. And to me, the cultivation of the skill is knowing how you want to manage that and then how to do that.

01/10/2025

When we live a rigid, combative life and maintain a mindset rooted in conflict, we lose our connection to nature and the divine—both of which embody a more fluid and harmonious state.

If we consider the biology of our internal fluid body, the structure of the water within us acts as a fractal antenna. However, when we exist in a competitive or combative state, this internal water becomes destructured, losing its natural geometric patterns. Scientifically, this causes our cells to lose their negative charge, which is essential for their optimal function.

Our fluid body is designed to expand outward, connecting us to all living things. But even our thoughts play a role in this connection. Negative, combative thought patterns—whether directed at ourselves or others—project outward into the world, disrupting the harmony of that connection.

E21: Competition without Combat

Consider, for a moment, what it might be like to be truly competitive, but without a combative edge or drive to dominate. Is it possible?

Competition can give us so many great things: community, physical and mental challenges, and goal posts by which to measure our progress - it can bring out our best and showcase our preparation, dedication, and talent. The darker side of competition is when we are motivated by comparison, rather than inspiration, causing us to turn against our fellow competitors, our horses, and even ourselves. How many of us can strive for high levels of excellence while maintaining a positive, emotionally balanced energetic space? And how many of us can do it with the eager, focused engagement of our equine partners as well?

When we have a clear sense of self, our values, and our purpose, we come to realize that competition is rarely about others; it’s about our personal journey, our commitment to growth, and remaining in integrity, regardless of external circumstances. Competition becomes a test of character - a pursuit of goals, not rivals.
