That all changed though and today Charley has released 15 albums, tours the globe, plays shows w/ Willie Nelson and was nominated for Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year at the 2023 Americana Music Honors & Awards….And to me he is the most aurhetic singer/songwriter out today.

“As we all know, Ringo always needed a littie help from his friends. We recorded this album in my favorite LA studio, Sunset Sound, on Sunset Boulevard. So, for this great album titled “Ringo,” featuring a whole bunch of Ringo hits and a whole bunch of friends who contributed their musicianship and songs. George brought “Sunshine Life for Me,” Paul wrote the beautiful song “Six O’Clock,” and of course John’s “I’m the Greatest.”
With l’m the Greatest” . The thing on the MIND GAMES EP is that you can now hear the track with John singing the song. It’s the guide vocal meant for Ringo - as we all know - he needs a little help from his friends!
On another day, we had the whole group called “The Band” in the studio to help Ringo on the song “Sunshine Life for Me”
Levon played the mandolin, Garth the accordion, Rick the fiddle, Robby the guitar, me on contrabass, George sang the guide vocal, and on drums, our lovely Ringo. Once the track was in the can, it was time for Ringo to sing the song. „I can’t sing that!” he said. “That’s too hard for me…Come on, my friend, off we go.” George grabbed Ringo by his arm, lead him to the microphone, and in no time, Ringo’s vocal was on tape.

1971 inside the control room at John Lennon’s Ascot Sound Studios. The custom 16x8 console which used CADAC modules was designed by David Dearden & Eddie Veale who also designed the studio. Above the window are Veale’s custom main monitors which utilized Altec 604E drivers. To the right is a 3M M23 8-track tape machine with eight Dolby 361 Noise Reduction units above, and the corner of one of the studio’s Studer B62 mixdown decks. The IMAGINE sessions took place here with a 3M M56 8-track machine and the B62s were in custom cabinet. #imagine #johnlennon #recordingstudio

Danny Kortchmar will be the next guest on the Sunset Sound Roundtable….so here’s an amazing segment from the Lee Sklar interview sharing on how James Taylor got signed by Peter Asher through Danny Kortchmar and that’s when things really started moving. “Kooch” is an absolute icon, genius musician and songwriter. He has worked with everyone from Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, David Crosby, Carole King, David Cassidy, Graham Nash, Neil Young, Steve Perry, Carly Simon, Bonnie Raitt and so many more. He truly helped define the signature sound of the singer-songwriter era of the 70s and can be seen on the liner notes of 1000s of records. Jackson Browne, Don Henley and many more have recorded a ton of songs written by Kortchmar and Danny was even Don Henley’s songwriting & producing partner in the 1980s.
