Cotton vs. Linen
It's almost summer and time to ponder our summer wardrobes and that includes fabrics!
CLOTHING EXCHANGE AS A FORM OF SUSTAINABILITY
CLOTHING EXCHANGE AS A FORM OF SUSTAINABILITY
Participating in a clothing exchange is a great way to keep garments in circulation, snag a "new to you" garment for your wardrobe, meet new friends and have some fun.
We dropped our food contributions on the beautiful table and headed for the welcoming back yard to begin our exchange. Everyone hung their own clothing. Then we all had time to eat, peruse the clothing and home goods and make notes about what we wanted. To give everyone a fair shot at the good stuff, Nika created "teams" to go up one at a time and pick one item each. Everyone managed to snag their first choice. I left with a stunning designer leather jacket.
We each packed up what didn't move in the exchange and also everyone took a bag of left over clothing to their favorite donation center. A true community effort!
Thank you to Nika and Pascale for continuing to support the community with ongoing clothing exchanges. It was a dreary day in Los Angeles yesterday, but the show must go on!
This clothing exchange is keeping me close to my summer commitment to No New Clothes!
A Spring in Winter!
Just because it's Winter doesn't mean we have to toss our personal style to stay warm. I still wanted to feel stylish, yet WARM as I handed out new keys in the lobby of my condominium building right next to the front door, traversed the roof to access water leakage from the heavy rains and making sure the pool wasn't overflowing!
How are you staying warm and did you have to sacrifice your style to do so?
If You Can See It, You Can Wear it!
Wardrobe Tip
HOW TO CHANGE YOUR SHOPPING HABITS AND THE BENEFITS
When a client first receives their color palette and Body Signature information, it can feel overwhelming with much to integrate. It takes practice and a willingness to make mistakes. It's the mistakes that bring the wisdom and guide us toward our wardrobe sweet spot. So don't be too hard on yourself. Take your time, always use your color palette, refer to your Body Signature and begin to understand what feels good to your body (it can't just look good).
I enjoyed my discussion with Joan Kosmachuk today on Instagram. We talked about how to avoid being pulled into trends. How to confidently sidestep sales and what strategies you can use to break old shopping habits.
A habit cannot be tossed out the window;
it must be coaxed down the stairs a step at a time.

What Do You Believe About Your Aging?
It all starts with your belief system.
I BELIEVE this is the best time in my life.
I BELIEVE that my life experience can contribute to my community in a positive way.
I BELIEVE that I'm a baby boomer and this generation makes stuff happen, like the mature woman being visible, having access to her value and being respected.
What do you believe about your aging?
I've been buying second hand for over 20 years. Initially it was quaint, attractive second hand stores with high quality merchandise in my neighborhood. Then I moved to online thrift shopping with Ebay, ThredUp, Tradsey, The RealReal and Poshmark. In tandem with my desire to purchase designer clothing at a discount is my wish to reduce my carbon footprint and buy consciously made clothing. I'm proud of my purchases and very proud of my current Eco Impact Report from thrifting online.
Check out the course Joan Kosmachuk and I created -- Secrets of Finding Designer Clothing at a Discount: The Art of Online Thrift Shopping." You will learn how to search for exactly what you need, including colors, sizing, style and fabrics. Learn from my mistakes!
And begin building your own eco-impact.
