Dear Friends and Family,

As we all know, self-care is vital, especially after the whirlwind of 2024 and a busy holiday season. For me, self-care is a regular priority, encompassing not just physical well-being, but also emotional, mental, spiritual, and deeply personal aspects.

I'm excited to share Andrea Pflaumer's new book, "Self-Care: 30 Compelling Life Lessons From Happy, Healthy, and Successful Women...and some men!" This little gem gathers insights from numerous blog posts and interviews by Andrea, and I'm proud to have been featured in one of them. For inspiration and support, be sure to grab a copy of this self-care treasure. And it's already reached #1 Best Seller on Amazon in all categories where it's listed!

Please feel free to share it with anyone in need of some TLC.

Wishing everyone a 2025 brimming with good health, joy, and blessings galore.

Warmly,
Denise

In Victorian England women used corsets and crinolines to physically mold their bodies into ideal hourglass shapes, enabling some women to accrue social power and successfully attract a husband.

Corsets’ restriction of women’s waists to 18" became so culturally and socially powerful that, in 1843, Les Modes Parisiennes, a Parisian fashion magazine, declared that wearing a corset was necessary in order to be beautiful. The beauty of aging is that we learn how much we don't know and how much is left to explore. As kids, we thought we would eventually "arrive" at a point where we knew everything, but that's far from the truth.

What are some things that you are still learning?

One question I often hear is, "At what age does a woman become mature?" In my opinion, the definition and timing of maturity is unique to each individual. Only you can truly know when you've reached it.

My mission is to be there to support you when that moment comes, and to remind you of your worth, beauty, and style.

If you agree, show your appreciation for mature beauty by posting a heart!

This is a terrific inspirational quote by Marc Middelton of Growing Bolder. My morning routine is the most important part of my day in terms of aging well. It's movement, meditation and mindfulness.

What choices are you making that ensures you have more power of how you age?

If Summer is the Season to "Bare It All," this is my mature beauty and style version. At one time this Michael Stars gold shimmer tank's duty was solely to occupy space underneath a corporate jacket. Summer in the City demands that it be liberated and paired with a fit and flare 100% cotton pleated skirt with a hint of gold thread throughout. All items pictured were sourced secondhand.

Showcasing my Skin Tone Light and my beloved soft gold metallic in jewelry and sandals.

As an Ambassador for Remake our World, I'm off to join the opening of a new secondhand store in Los Angeles. Will report back later.

As a mature woman, what is your version of "baring it all" during the summer?

I'm not sure anyone will ever really know how they are going to feel that first day when they are no longer an employee, but a retiree. When 9am is just another hour on the clock. When you can stay in bed until your body says yes. When lunch is when you're hungry and not on the company schedule. When your value is based on who you are and not what you do. When you can feel a real sense of freedom. When your day is all yours and you can share it with whomever you desire, or not.
Your mind my be confused. Your body might be grateful. Your spirit might be joyful. Your soul will be ready for your next journey. Listen to your Soul. The others will follow.

What advise would you give?

It's almost summer and time to ponder our summer wardrobes and that includes fabrics!

CLOTHING EXCHANGE AS A FORM OF SUSTAINABILITY

Participating in a clothing exchange is a great way to keep garments in circulation, snag a "new to you" garment for your wardrobe, meet new friends and have some fun.

We dropped our food contributions on the beautiful table and headed for the welcoming back yard to begin our exchange. Everyone hung their own clothing. Then we all had time to eat, peruse the clothing and home goods and make notes about what we wanted. To give everyone a fair shot at the good stuff, Nika created "teams" to go up one at a time and pick one item each. Everyone managed to snag their first choice. I left with a stunning designer leather jacket.

We each packed up what didn't move in the exchange and also everyone took a bag of left over clothing to their favorite donation center. A true community effort!

Thank you to Nika and Pascale for continuing to support the community with ongoing clothing exchanges. It was a dreary day in Los Angeles yesterday, but the show must go on!

This clothing exchange is keeping me close to my summer commitment to No New Clothes!

OVER PRODUCTION ENCOURAGES OVER CONSUMPTION

I'm participating in the "No New Clothes" challenge in tandem with remakeourworld. It can be hard when our inbox is filled with temptations. These were just from today's email! I'm trying to set myself up for success in this summer long challenge by unsubscribing to emails from brands I know don't work for my personal style. And I'm giving myself grace because I realize how programmed I am for a sale! Eight days in. So far, good.

Many of us have a sense of our colors, even as young children (if we aren't talked out of it by family or friends). We have less knowledge growing up about how our clothing should fit and even less about OUR style. I was in my 60s when I found Joan Kosmachuk and took her course -- The Art of Seasonal Style. The three keys to dressing finally came together. One without the other is an incomplete formula for dressing.

Are you using all three keys in your wardrobe?
