Julia Stein

Stein has published eight books--one book of prose, five books of poetry, and two anthologies of poetry. She has edited novels, poetry, and prose. Stein is also a journalist who broke stories nationally, and she has been recently publishing book reviews in “Rain Taxi” and articles on the housing crises in Counterpunch and Citywatch LA. She co-authored the book “Shooting Women: Behind the Camera, Around the World” about female camerawomen. Stein has just finished her three-generation memoir “I Can Hear Them Singing” about the courage of her grandmother born in Russia before World War I, her mother coming of age in the Depression and World War II, and her own life a rebel in 1960s Berkeley, a young 1970s Los Angeles feminist writer, and her opening up Los Angeles poetry to multi-cultural women’s and men’s voices in the 1980s.
