In Aliev’s latest interview on 12/17/2024…

Around 300,000 Azerbaijanis have officially appealed to the leadership of Armenia in order to create conditions for their return and reintegration. this was announced by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

He said that it is about the Azerbaijanis who left Armenia in the 1980s and 1990s.
“They have the right to return. We have not yet received an answer from the Armenian leadership on how they see the process of the return of Azerbaijanis to their “historic lands” (quotes: Tert.am),” he said.
It should be noted that Aliyev means the sovereign territory of RA by “historical lands of Azerbaijanis”.

ASIA MINOR MAP 🇬🇷🇦🇲

Around the year zero , Asia Minor was a culturally and linguistically diverse region, reflecting its position as a crossroads between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Below is an outline of the ethno-linguistic map during this period. A lot of people lived next to the Greeks ( blue shades on the map) and even Gauls , who went to the region after their annihilation by the Greeks in Delphi, during their grand expedition in 279 BCE.

The turks were not present in the region. 😉

🇦🇲🇬🇷 Armenia & Greece Sign Protocol To Boost Economic Ties, Trade, Mutual Investment & Cooperation In Tech, Tourism & More

The 6th session of the Armenia-Greece Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation took place in Yerevan on December 17. The session was co-chaired by Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan and Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Kostas Fragkogiannis. It concluded with the signing of a protocol aimed at enhancing economic ties between the two countries.

“The sessions of the intergovernmental commission between Armenia and Greece have become an important platform where it is possible to discuss existing issues, identify new areas of cooperation, and develop effective mechanisms aimed at revealing the potential of our countries. In this context, we would like the Greek capital to be further expanded in Armenia, which will be mutually beneficial for the economies of our two countries,” stated Papoyan.

Papoyan highlighted that trade turnover between the two countries from January to October this year amounted to $44.7 million, reflecting a 14.3% decline. He attributed the decrease to EU sanctions against Russia and the lifting of GSP+ trade preferences.

He noted that Greece’s rapidly growing economy provides favorable conditions for foreign investments, encouraging Greek businesses to increase trade and investment activities in Armenia. “We are one of the fastest-growing economies in Europe. Greece is very favorable for foreign investments. And we would like our business community to have broader involvement in trade with Armenia and investments,” he stated.

Discussions covered a broad range of topics, including cooperation in the fields of economy and investments, trade, industry, development of small and medium-sized enterprises, agriculture, environment and climate change, healthcare, digitalization, new technologies, high technologies, science, quality infrastructure, transport, and tourism.

Both sides expressed their commitment to deepening economic ties, increasing trade turnover, and offering mutual investment opportunities to businesses.

US President-elect Donald Trump said on Monday that Turkey carried out an “unfriendly takeover” of Syria, referring to the recent collapse of the former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Trump said Erdogan is “a very smart guy” and claimed Turkey “wanted it [Syria] for thousands of years, and he got it”. He added that the former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was a “butcher”.

Indian media reports that Azerbaijan, via a third country indicated it wants to purchase weapons from India, however the request was ignored.

Per the media posts, a third country approached India, saying that if it wants to export its indigenous weaponry and was looking for a long-term partner, it could look towards Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani government did not directly bring up the subject with India.

In 2023, economic trade between Azerbaijan and India stood at $1.435 billion, which is the largest in the region for New Delhi. India is Azerbaijan’s seventh largest trading partner and the third largest destination for Azeri crude oil.

US President-elect Donald Trump on Monday said Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was behind an “unfriendly takeover” of Syria, referring to the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad government earlier this month.

“He’s a very smart guy and he’s very tough. But Turkey did an unfriendly takeover without a lot of lives being lost. I can say Assad was a butcher, what he did to children,” Trump said during a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, adding that he didn’t know what the outcome of Assad’s collapse would be.

“One of the sides has been essentially wiped out. Nobody knows who the other side is. But I do. You know who it is? Turkey. Okay? Turkey is the one behind it. He’s [Erdogan] a very smart guy. They’ve wanted it for thousands of years, and he got it.”

Trump went on to say that “those people who went in and got it” - referring to the rebel offensive led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) that culminated in December - are controlled by Turkey.

“And that’s okay, that’s another way to fight,” he added.

Trump said he got along well with Erdogan and credited him for creating a “major military force” that had not yet been worn out with war.

“I mean, he’s built a very strong, powerful army,” he said.

The US and Turkey, despite being Nato allies, have for years been at loggerheads during Syria’s civil war.

Trump has opposed a US military presence in Syria and in 2018 ordered the withdrawal of 2,000-2500 US troops from the country during his first tenure as president. On Monday he said that the remaining 900 US troops in Syria were no longer a danger because “the other side had been decimated”.

Azerbaijan’s dictatorship has approved the 2025 state budget, featuring a massive increase in military spending. Defense and national security expenditures have surged by approximately 2 billion AZN (about $2.5 billion USD) compared to the previous year.

This substantial boost comes amid escalating regional tensions and a surge in arms deliveries to Azerbaijan from countries like Serbia and Bulgaria, raising concerns about a potential conflict. Open-source monitoring by journalist David Galstyan has uncovered significant recent arms imports from these nations, alongside ongoing arms shipments from Israel.

Azerbaijan has organized shipments from Niš (Serbia) and Burgas (Bulgaria), both key hubs for arms transfers. While these shipments previously relied on the Azerbaijani Air Force and Silk Way Airlines, the Ukrainian company Motor Sich has now emerged as a major transporter. Known for its military transport operations, Motor Sich has recently conducted flights on routes such as Burgas–Bucharest–Baku and Burgas–Baku. In recent days, its aircraft completed two consecutive flights on the Niš–Burgas–Baku route.

The sharp rise in Azerbaijan’s defense budget, coupled with intensified arms deliveries, signals preparation for a possible escalation in the region. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan continues to pressure Armenia to amend its constitution to sign a so-called “peace” treaty and is increasingly raising the issue of resettling Azerbaijanis in Armenian territory.

Watertown Police Arrest Suspect For Vandalizing St. Stephen’s Armenian Church Banner Of His Holiness Aram I, Vandalist To Face Criminal Charges
➖➖➖
The Watertown Police Department arrested a Cambridge resident on Friday who is accused of vandalizing a banner at St. Stephen’s Armenian Church in Watertown last November, reports WCVB

“Chief Hanrahan is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of our investigation into the vandalism incident at St. Stephen’s Armenian Church,” said the Watertown Police Department.

“We hope it brings reassurance to the parishioners of St. Stephen’s and the broader community, reaffirming that acts of vandalism or hatred have no place here,” they added.

The incident occurred on November 18, when police received a report that a banner at St. Stephen’s had been vandalized. The banner was displayed to celebrate the Pontifical visit by His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Armenian Church, in October.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered that the suspect had painted over the word “Holiness” with black spray paint and attempted to deface Aram I’s photo with a blue pen.

Police stated that the suspect will face criminal charges for their actions.
The identity of the suspect has not been released, nor has a trial date been set.

Turkey‘s’ “war on terror” is an echo of the phrase that came to define the period after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States. Turkey has drawn extensively from the U.S. counterterrorism playbook.

Beyond renditions, it has used secret detentions, terrorism watch lists, asset seizures and torture — including at least one reported case of waterboarding — against exiles, according to U.N. documents, human rights groups, Western security officials and public records in Turkey.

These operations have been “justified in the name of combating terrorism,” according to a U.N. report, even though nearly all those targeted are members of a religious sect known as the Gulen movement with no history of terrorist attacks. Turkey has labeled the group a terrorist organization, citing its members’ alleged involvement in a failed 2016 coup.

Two former CDU/CSU Bundestag members will face the Munich Higher Regional Court (OLG) on bribery charges tied to the “Azerbaijan affair,” Münchner Merkur reports. The court has accepted the charges, brought by the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office, with proceedings set for January 16.

Former CDU MP Axel Fischer is accused of bribery, and ex-CSU MP Eduard Lintner is accused of bribing officials to influence decisions favoring Azerbaijan in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). Both deny the allegations. Lintner allegedly funneled millions through foreign companies, distributing funds to sway other MPs, while Fischer reportedly received €21,800 in exchange for pro-Azerbaijan speeches and leaked documents.

The charges focus on actions since 2014, when influencing international parliamentary members became illegal in Germany. The investigation, involving raids since 2020, also implicated two others for aiding and abetting, while another suspect has since died.
