udent Films, Music Videos, Webisodes, and Photography. It is also available for private events and art shows. The complex includes an evocative 1000 square foot raw warehouse space, an adjoining 532 square foot white studio, and 654 square feet of outdoor space. We've recently added the 550-square-foot Monk Annex for smaller shoots, as well as for auditions, rehearsals, meetings, workshops, 30-person-or-less TV or Film screenings, or as a holding area/green room for larger productions downstairs. By January 1, 2012 the Annex will include an adjoining makeup room with professional tables and lights, a large pull-down screen, high-end DVD projector, 360-degree black curtains, and comfy fold-up chairs. Located in L.A.’s production-friendly Koreatown/Hancock Park, this 80-year-old brick building includes electric, WIFI, track lighting, and two bathrooms downstairs in Monk Space proper, and two more bathrooms upstairs next to the Monk Annex. Both warehouse and studio have tall ceilings and concrete floors. The Warehouse has distressed brick walls, a skylight, and two sliding wooden door entrances that join an outdoor patio and atmospheric brick alley. There are two entrances to the street, and ample street parking for production trucks, vans and cars. The combined spaces are perfect for shoots that need room for production, craft services, and holding.

Darwin proved this Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion nonsense wrong over 150 years ago in his Descent of Man. Darwin showed that skin pigment in humans was a random mutation that secured no demonstrable advantage or disadvantage in the struggle for existence. Which is one reason why I've been such an ardent anti-racist and anti-racialist my entire life, starting in high school.

What matters is the individual before you, creating conditions for them to be the best they can be. For corporations, your job is to be the best, most excellent, most profitable company you can be, so you, first and foremost, stay in business. Studies show that diversity, equity, and inclusion mandates have zero causal connection to that prime directive. What matters is hiring the best and the brightest and instilling a culture of relentless no-excuses excellence. I've worked for organizations with all-black leadership, some with all-white leadership. It mattered not. They both achieved excellence because the quality of the leadership was excellent.

MONK SPACE - Film Production Warehouse and Event Venue

Monk Space was established in 2007 as a full service FILM PRODUCTION WAREHOUSE and EVENT VENUE in the center of LA. Located on the edge of Koreatown, convenient to all freeways, we are an adaptive use space housed in a 95 year-old brick building with tons of character and history. When renting from us you have the option of booking one of two stages, or book all access to the entire ground floor facility. STAGE ONE, our warehouse, has distressed brick walls, concrete floors, a skylight, two shuttered windows, tall ceilings and load in through a pedestrian alley from the street. This includes adjacent production rooms and courtyard which all have their own unique looks and functionality. STAGE TWO, our Annex, has a restored 1920s vintage wall, more exposed brick, wood plank walls, a hallway and a roll up door for easy load in.
