Darren Walker is the quiet force behind so much of ARRAY’s success in the non-profit space. Our educational work. Our law enforcement accountability work. Our public programming. Even, our latest film, ORIGIN. All of it has been powered by the vision of Mr. Walker, who cold called our founder Ava DuVernay one day out of the blue after seeing her film, “13th,” and advised her on how to expand ARRAY’s reach through philanthropic support. Under Mr. Walker’s leadership, the Ford Foundation has supported countless artists, entrepreneurs and organizations with an eye toward social progress. ARRAY is proud to be a part of his mighty legacy. And, as he chooses to spread his wings and retire from Ford, we eagerly await his next steps and cheer him on every step of the way. Thank you, Mr. Walker. We salute you today and everyday.

ARRAY Releasing has partnered with Mansa, a streaming platform dedicated to showcasing the richness of global Black culture, on a licensing agreement to distribute ARRAY’s independent feature films on the platform.

“Ava DuVernay is one of my closest friends and collaborators so I can’t overstate how meaningful this partnership between ARRAY Releasing and Mansa is to me,” said David Oyelowo, co-founder of Mansa. “It’s not just about distributing films; it’s about amplifying the voices of those who have been marginalized for far too long. Last night, we celebrated the upcoming ARRAY release of Debora Souza Silva’s documentary FOR OUR CHILDREN on Netflix. Debuting May 10 on the streaming platform, the film features the tireless work of Reverend Wanda Johnson and her crusade against police violence following the death of her son Oscar Grant. This triumphant film tackles trauma and tragedy by examining “the cycles of courage and care” needed to combat them, as explained by Ms. Souza-Silva. To last night’s sold out audience at the ARRAY Creative Campus, Reverend Johnson encouraged filmgoers to become active in their community and the world around them, insisting that change can come if we do the work. We thank both women for joining us at ARRAY. And we thank our own Tilane Jones, Mercedes Cooper and their teams for last night’s event and the film’s release on Friday just in time for Mother’s Day.

We’re thrilled to share that ARRAY Releasing has acquired Débora Souza Silva’s powerful documentary,  FOR OUR CHILDREN! We will distribute the film exclusively on May 10, just in time for Mother’s Day!

FOR OUR CHILDREN is a radical love letter to generations past and present centering two mothers, Reverend Wanda Johnson and Angela Williams, whose lives have been forever altered by police violence against their sons.

Ms. Silva’s emotional chronicle of remembrance and resilience delicately demonstrates how to pay forward lessons learned even in the aftermath of unthinkable tragedy.
