✅President Joe Biden has called on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to finalize a peace agreement with Armenia this year. In a letter to Aliyev, the U.S. President said Washington stands ready to support a durable and dignified peace between the two countries. Below is the letter as reported by the Azertac state news agency of Azerbaijan. “I am pleased to see that your nation and Armenia have made steady progress toward finalizing a peace agreement that would normalize relations between your two countries. I want to assure you that the United States stands ready to support a durable and dignified peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia that would finally put to rest centuries of conflict. A peace agreement would not only ensure Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, it would transform the entire region–paving the way for increased trade, investment, and connectivity between Europe and Central Asia. As the world’s attention turns to Baku for COP29, you have a unique opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to peace in front of a global audience. As you know, finalizing the remaining articles of the peace agreement will require creativity and compromise on all sides. But I am confident that you will continue to meet this moment, and I encourage you to finalize an agreement this year. I want you to know that I am committed to supporting this cause. My Administration is prepared to take bold initiatives that would help pave the way for peace. I have asked my Senior Director for Europe, Michael Carpenter, to brief you on some of the steps we would be willing to take and also to get your feedback on discussions with Armenia. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to set a new course for the region, one based on shared prosperity and the pursuit of common good.” 🇦🇲

The non-commercial project has not only boosted local tourism but also funded infrastructure improvements like roads, schools, and community centers. This year, Wings of Tatev has been nominated for the prestigious World Travel Award for the third time in the “Best Cable Car in the World” category. 🇦🇲

✅President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has unleashed a new batch of disinformation, threats, and blackmail. As usual, the main target of Aliyev’s attacks was Armenia—but this time the US and France were also affected. “Today America imposes sanctions on Azerbaijan. And after that they say ‘let’s strengthen our friendship.’ What kind of friendship can we talk about?” said the leader of Azerbaijan. The president of Azerbaijan said as follows regarding Armenia: “Armenia has been involved in dangerous games. Let them not forget the story of the Second Karabakh War [in 2020]. Let them not forget how they were begging us on their knees for mercy, how they were petitioning to Russia at the highest level ten times a day, asking to stop the war. Let them not forget about the anti-terror operation. Let them not forget that even in those geographical conditions we were able to achieve what we wanted. We uprooted [Armenian] separatism [in Nagorno-Karabakh] in just a few hours without looking back, no matter what.”

In fact, in just one speech, Aliyev admitted that he waged an aggressive war against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, announced his intention to repeat it, calling “not to forget,” and confirmed that within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, everything was going towards the independent status of Nagorno-Karabakh.

✅Lawyers for former Artsakh Republic State Minister Ruben Vardanyan, who is currently being held illegally in prison in Azerbaijan, filed lawsuits in Baku on Thursday, claiming he was tortured and denied a speedy trial

Vardanyan’s lawyers said one of the cases involved torture during a hunger strike he went on in April 2024. They said Vardanyan was retaliated against by being placed in solitary confinement, forced to stand, forbidden to wash, and deprived of water for two days. In another lawsuit, Vardanyan’s lawyers said his right to a speedy trial was violated by his detention since last year.
A separate lawsuit has brought charges against the Russian-language Azerbaijani newspaper Bakinskiy Rabochiy, which spread slander against Ruben Vardanyan.

In their statement, Ruben Vardanyan’s lawyers also called on Azerbaijan to release all Artsakh prisoners held in the country before the start of the COP29 summit.
