SCOTT GARNER is from a town you’ve never heard of, went to a film school that was not USC, and spent his formative years watching too many movies. His comedy training includes graduating from the iO West improv program and the bang. It’s not his fault that both theaters have capitalization issues. A founding former member of the improv/sketch group Dr. God, he has written for such iO shows as Big
News, Top Story! Weekly, and Yancy Bazorian Presents. He was the head writer for PopCo Sketch, and from 2009-2011 he was head writer, co-show runner, and director of the Mainstage Sketch Show at the iO West. He has directed numerous shorts, some of which he will never show you. Many others are available for your viewing pleasure on the World Wide Web, including “The Panty Sniper,” “Miyazaki, mon amour,” and (very, very soon) “The Hindenburglar.”
Preston Sturges is his God, and Howard Hawks is his Jesus. If you forced him to pick a Holy Ghost, it would be Buster Keaton or Billy Wilder, but that would certainly be taking the metaphor too far.
