"I can't believe I'm still here," Miranda said as she lit the candles on her birthday cake and sat at her kitchen table. She was grateful for her years of good health but felt totally lonely.

"Well, well, well, Miranda. You're able to live a century, but who cares if there's no one to hug?" she said to herself, shedding a tear. "I would give anything to hear 'Happy Birthday' from someone else at least once more..."
