Attention screenwriters! Shopping around project (with budget) - Leon Uris meets Israeli Top Gun meets Band of Brothers WWII. If you know writers with experience who might be passionate about this, pls have them email me at [email protected]. Interviewing folks now.

Dave Hall and I started Northstar Cinema during the writers strike. The two of us are childhood friends and worked at Sony together. Dave graduated from USC Film School and Peter Stark producing program and agency world.... but Google took him away.... oh well. Those Google handcuffs.

As many of you know, I was an aspiring actor up until the strikes. Got the bug to try to self produce... and now in the development game of optioning limited projects and seeing what we can do in this turbulent time in the industry of making tv/film.

For now, having fun. Grateful for the support. More project announcements to come.

NorthStar Cinema principals Jeremy Broekman and David Hall acquire exclusive rights to alternate history author S.M. Stirling’s Island in the Sea of Time. The first of three books in the Nantucket Series, Island in the Sea of Time, was published in 1998, and has become one of the most critically acclaimed and popular tales of The Emberverse series, a set of 17 post-apocalyptic alternate history novels.

SM Stirling is a NY Times best selling author of dozens of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Alternate History novels spanning a thirty year career with a legion of adoring fans and millions of copies sold. The Nantucket trilogy features a diverse ensemble cast nested within an epic global conflict as the island of Nantucket is hurtled back in time to the Bronze Age with different factions of the island’s population vying to dominate the world for their own benefit while others try to better it. Similar in tone to LOST with the historicity and epic battles of ROME, the struggle for world dominance that plays out across the three books is fertile ground for a TV or Streaming mini series.

How much should a Screenwriter get paid for their screenplay? How much do I pay a Screenwriter to Adapt my book?

These are fabulous questions. Your ultimate goal is to try to actually get a literary agent to represent you and shop your book for a deal.

If you don’t have Hollywood connections or schmoozing power, than aligning yourself with a producer or production company to represent you.

Option A: Option your book for a fee or
Option B: Create a shopping agreement to pay you for an 18-month window to shop your book for a deal.

If hiring a ghostwriter to get a concept together (that may or may not be appreciated by your representation, but may be appreciated for concept), paying around $4,000 for a concept is not unheard of. There are professionals that will charge $5k, $10k or up to $30k for a Freelance feature script or $4-10k for a freelance TV Script.

NOTE: This post is meant as a guideline and is not officially offering any legal advice. Definitely consult an entertainment attorney before signing any contract or doing any agreements. Again, this post SHOULD NOT be a replacement for seeking sound legal advice from a qualified lawyer. Neither of us have even played lawyers on TV or in film so we can’t even say we have that going for us. This is based on observations and conversations and might as well be heresy.
