When my mom died, my whole world fell apart. She was the best person in the world! She left me all her money (millions). We were really poor—she worked her butt off to take care of me. Then, one day, out of nowhere, she got this HUGE inheritance. The weird part? Every time I asked her where it came from, she’d just avoid the question.
Anyway, I was going through her stuff when the doorbell rang. It was the mailman with a letter addressed to mom. My hands were shaking as I opened it. And oh God… what I read made my legs give out. It said, “YOU’RE A THIEF! RETURN WHAT YOU STOLE IF YOU HAVE ANY CONSCIENCE LEFT!”
I couldn’t wrap my head around it. There’s no way my mom could’ve stolen money—she wasn’t like that at all! So, I knew I had to figure out what was really going on. The note had a return address, so I stormed out the door immediately, heading straight there.

I’m a neurologist and totally love my job. I’ve been married to my husband for four years now. He’s in marketing, but I make three times what he does. From day one, I told him I wasn’t sure about having biological kids and always dreamed of adopting. He seemed cool with it until his best friend had a baby boy last year. Then he started pushing for kids, but I wanted to wait a few more years, since my career was just taking off.
But surprise, I got pregnant last August. After a lot of talks, we decided to keep the baby, and he agreed to quit his job and stay home with our daughter until she starts preschool. It made sense because I earn more, I’m just starting my career, and I can’t stand the idea of being a housewife. Plus, I don’t trust daycare until she’s old enough to talk.
Our baby girl is 9 weeks old now, and I’m gearing up to go back to work soon. I went to this amazing medical conference out of state last weekend, leaving my husband with the baby. But get this: when I got back, he started acting super weird.

I’d been asking my husband, Tom, for months to take our battered old couch to the dump. It was practically falling apart, but every time I brought it up, he’d say, “Tomorrow,” or “Next weekend, I promise.” Spoiler: “tomorrow” never came.

It was a drawing—just a cute little sketch at first glance. It showed a family: a man, a woman, and a little girl all holding hands. I smiled at first, thinking, aw, how sweet.
