🎉Help us in celebrating the strength and impact of the 2025 Debra Lee Community Organizing Fellowship Cohort! 🎉

💫For over 30 years, Community Coalition has been organizing alongside youth and adult residents to create change in South Los Angeles. With multigenerational and multiracial solidarity as core values and strategies, CoCo is building community voice and power towards our collective freedom. We integrate these values into CoCo’s Center for Community Organizing Fellowships, investing in movement leaders to drive impactful change in their respective communities.

💐We give a huge shoutout to the Debra Lee Fellows that participated in a 6-month program to lift the power of women and femme community organizers across the state of CA. These participants have demonstrated remarkable growth in their leadership and ability to build community voice and power.

The Los Angeles Rent Stabilization Ordinance (LARSO) is LA’s rent control law, which limits how much rent can go up each year. The rent increase formula in LARSO, which determines annual rent increases, has not been updated in 40 years, allowing rents to skyrocket.\

It’s time to vote yes on the Los Angeles Rent Stabilization Ordinance—Cap the rent at 3%!

It is in this environment that community residents and leaders are envisioning Neighborhood Action Hubs. These hubs are local, resident-led chapters that bring people together to create networks of care, provide rapid response in times of crisis, and build leadership at the neighborhood level. Block captains, volunteers, and community members will form the backbone of this work in South Los Angeles, anchoring the vision of resilience and collective strength.

Families in South LA are facing rising unemployment, cuts to Medi-Cal and CalFresh, and the expansion of ICE. That is why we are building Neighborhood Hubs, spaces where neighbors create networks of care, rapid response, and leadership. Today, we are launching chapters across South LA to build resilience and power. Today, we are reimagining how we care for one another, block by block, in spaces where residents come together to support each other when systems fail.

For 34 years, South Central Youth Empowered thru Action’s (SCYEA’s) purpose has been to develop the next generation of leaders, to improve public education, close the achievement gap, and dismantle the “School-to-Prison Pipeline.” CoCo youth leaders learn the principles of community organizing and develop their individual leadership styles. Most importantly, as these young leaders graduate from high school, many go on to utilize their influence and impact to transform their collegiate campus communities and the world.
