TerraGraphics International Foundation (TIFO) is an interdisciplinary team of scientists that applies environmental cleanup and health intervention methodologies to help low and middle-income countries affected by mining, recycling sites, industrial operations, and legacy sites.

TIFOโ€™s work addresses environmental health issues in low-income countries that have inherited environmental diseases exported from high-income nations. The struggles to achieve healthy communities are real; their cleanup model includes community engagement; training and employing local workers; adapting proven interventions to local socio-economic realities; securing diverse funding for activities; and including responsible government and industry contributions that are sustainable and attentive to the underlying poverty that facilitated the original polluting activities.

They help farms, waste management companies, water reclamation facility and other waste generators become more profitable by converting waste to high-value products, such as hydrogen and valuable carbons through the breakdown of organic matter, such as food scraps and animal waste, in conditions with no oxygen to produce a biogas that is later decomposed to hydrogen and carbon; this hydrogen is expected to sell at a lower cost and lower carbon footprint than the current methods.

The flagship campaign of the cause, YOU ARE ENOUGH, was launched in Los Angeles on July 1, 2020, to help people feel worthy, seen, and held by sharing the words YOU ARE ENOUGH on billboards nationwide.

Tony Kono began his career in communications as a Senior publicist and marketing executive with experience developing integrated, proactive media communications programs building on a previous career in financial journalism. As a child, his grandmother sent him to an environmental camp where he learned about estuaries and ecosystems, which sparked his lifelong interest in the environment.

After Superstorm Sandy, Tony reached out to the Mayor of Brick, NJ, John Ducey, to ask how he could help, resulting in his appointment to the Environmental Commission. Tony and his team have had numerous accomplishments within his community, including the โ€œPick Up Brickโ€ events for school and scout groups, partnering with local NGOs like Clean Ocean Action on Beach Sweeps, Save Barnegat Bay, and of utmost importance, Tony organized his community to save 30 acres of woods from being destroyed for a high-end housing development.

What's next? Stay tuned... Tony and his team are looking at becoming a hub for Community Solar development to vastly expand support to low-income and seniors by reducing the cost of their electricity bills.

Keith Malone is the Director of Hydrogen Programs for RE+ Events. In his more than 30 years of public affairs and 11 years of hydrogen experience, he has been a leader in Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology.
