Obon is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one's ancestors. This Buddhist–Confucian custom has evolved into a family reunion holiday during which people return to ancestral family places. Obon is usually in August, but in some local areas, they do in July.

"Tsuyu", the rainy season, usually comes during the late spring and early summer, and it continues for about 2 months. Raining all day is not bad. Sometimes arts and new ideas pop out during the calm rainy season. After these calm days, the happy sunny Summer comes.

There is a Japanese garden named "Shofu-en" in the Denver Botanic Gardens. Shofu-en translates to ‘Garden of Pine and Wind.’ This garden was inspired by Colorado’s Rocky Mountains and it features 130 character pines transplanted from the foothills. It was built in 1979.
