In 2018, Lavigne, environmentalist and activist, founded the advocacy group RISE ST. JAMES to bring attention to the environmental racism ravaging her home in St. James Parish, Louisiana. Rise St. James has been at the forefront of combating the harmful practices in the areas known as "Cancer Alley."

Her tireless work has made significant strides in the fight for justice.

📍 Willcox, Arizona | This community may soon see relief through a safeguard for its water supplies. After reaching a breaking point from overconsumption of underground water due to industrial farming, the state plans to begin regulating groundwater!

The state announced it was beginning the process to regulate groundwater in Willcox, where industrial farming has drained the aquifer, a big step to reign in the overconsumption of underground water supplies in rural Arizona.
