On Wednesday June 21, 2023 LA-via-Rio composer Fabiano do Nascimento had organized - with Leaving Records and an ensemble of contemporaries in the local scene - a one-night-only seated concert at a historic venue in Northeast Los Angeles. Do Nascimento and his band set out to perform a curated selection of original music and other favorites from cherished composers.

Behold Solstice Concert - the raw recording of what went down that evening - straight from the board, solstice vibes glistening, full band synchronized, audience stoked. Although unintended to be a full-length album release subsequent to the performance, the tape was indeed rolling however unknown to the band on stage and those in attendance.

Fabiano Do Nascimento plays 7-string guitar, soprano guitar, and electronics. Sam Gendel plays soprano saxophone and MIDI saxophone. Gabe Noel plays the electric bass. Tamir Barzilay plays drums, percussion, and electronic drums.

So Much Love to our Grammy-nom squad! Dré & the crew didn’t win, but that’s OK - the nomination was certainly still so monumental for so many obvious reasons! Today, have released their scortching 14min full-length version of the stand-out song “So Much Love” from last year’s 2LP Subtle Movements. The track is now available across all platforms, and was recorded + performed live at in Ojai CA.

Statues Live - 73min of live seasonal winterjazz from LA’s bassist/composer Spencer Zahn & ensemble, out now. Spencer holds a reputation for being one of the premier bassists on the scene, and his original compositions as both a bandleader and songwriter are marked by a signature air of emotive spaciousness. After moving to LA from NY only a few years back, Zahn was welcomed by the music community here as intrigue for his sound grew organically. I invited Spencer to perform a live jazz ensemble rendition of his album Statues at our Leaving Records seminal ongoing daytime concert series last November, so he took the opportunity to organize a band consisting of the most talented players that we know currently working in Los Angeles jazz. Nicole McCabe on alto sax, Zach Tenoriro on electric piano, Vancil Cooper on drums, and of course The Zahn (cheeky nickname for Spencer, give it a try) on his signature bass guitar w.a bit of piano sprinkled-in. We got lucky when the live recording for both our park show and a separate studio set at Altamira Sound of the same band & material just a few days later turned out immaculate - so here we have it - Statues Live.

New Age music from the Celtic/British Isles crossed over into the mainstream in the late 80s - notably with Enya (and her band Clannad), the perhaps now lesser-known instrumental Celtic harp music of Patrick Ball, and the slew of now mostly forgotten various artist compilations that saturated the New Age CD and cassette music market in the early 90s.

Fast-forward to 2024 as Leaving Records now introduces Welsh musician Aisha Vaughan and her sound design-laden vocal ambient album 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘵𝘦. It is upon us to renew deep-cut Celtic zones. “No Past” single is out now, album drops Dec7. Edition of 100 cassettes now shipping, edition of 100 vinyl shipping next week.

*Last year, right around this time, premiere LA-residing bassist and composer - alongside an ecstatic quartet of the most exciting players in Los Angeles - reinvented his album Statues for our seminal outdoor concert series. Leaving is elated to announce *Statues Live*, a full-length live document showcasing our outdoor concert on Side A, coupled with a live studio rehearsal on Side B. “OST (Live from )” is out now, but you gotta wait for the full 1hr 13min live album out Dec13. Exceptional congratulations to Spencer, the whole band, recording engineering squad, et al for making this ambitious live project a reality with Leaving….this is truly one for the books.
