​TheMellowSound.net is our exclusive tribute to KNX / FM, the ultimate reflection of the laid back LA lifestyle during its storied broadcast years from 1973 to 1983.
The main ingredient of our tribute stream is the authentic KNX/FM music library. We've collected and cared for the authentic albums (and singles!) to recreate the 1973-1983 era. That's when great songwriters, singers, players and producers created such memorable music. We just have to keep it going!
So, what do these three fine artists have in common? Stewarts one and all, of course. All fine songwriters: yes. All produced great albums like these from the authentic KNX/FM 93 library: yes.

KNX/FM 93 had a LOT of talent right down the street in Hollywood in the day. Just for starters, there was The Byrds with Chris Hillman, Buffalo Springfield & Poco with Richie Furay and J. D. Souther. These bands made some classic records and the guys went on to make a lot of solo & group Mellow Sounds. We're pleased to keep 'em spinning (along with their mates McGuinn and Stills).
A gifted singer and a mean guitarist, Bonnie has been a key artist of The Mellow Sound from the beginning. Her early albums are full of gems you'll catch often with us. As the song says: we "Can't Get Enough" of Bonnie's talent and musical taste.
He's been with us from the beginning of KNX/FM. It's Christopher Ames, the ever vigilant keeper of The Odyssey File. You hear him all 'round the clock with his special take on the people and events of today. Exclusively on The Original Mellow Sound of KNX FM 93 at themellowsound.net. We are gonna brag just a little. Recent ratings are in and we're proud to report that The Mellow Sound is in the TOP 5% of the thousands of MyTuner Radio streams. Dylan. One of kind songwriter celebrated everyday on The Mellow Sound with performances by George Harrison, Joan Baez, Rick Nelson, Rita Coolidge, Peter, Paul & Mary, The Byrds and more. Not to ignore Bob's own like Tangled Up In Blue, Shelter From The Storm, Lay Lady Lay, Positively 4th Street and many more. Great writers has always been "our thing" on The Mellow Sound.
We never stop working (if you can call it that!) to keep the Mellow Sound authentic to the original KNX/FM. Just this week we've added tracks from these fine artists and more. It's true variety for you every time you tune in.

One of our most played singer/songwriters. JD is all over The Mellow Sound with his solo albums plus joining with Eagles, Chris Hillman, Richie Furay, James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt for great tracks like Best Of My Love, You're Only Lonely, Border Town, Prisoner In Disguise, Her Town Too. Smart lyrics and cool melodies.
In southern California, KNX/FM was everywhere in the seventies. Early in 1977, Dustin Hoffman was making his feature film "Straight Time" on the streets of L. A. This shot of a huge painted outdoor station billboard made the final cut. Thanks to an alert listener who sent us this screen shot. We're still musical after all these years....to borrow a phrase from classic songwriter Mr. Simon. Together and solo or with friends like James Taylor and Randy Newman, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel are essential artists of The Mellow Sound. We hand pick many album tracks you won't hear elsewhere.

Eagles. One of the best bands ever created great albums which we love to spin everyday on The Mellow Sound. We go for tracks like The Sad Cafe, Is It True, The Last Resort, Doolin' Dalton, Wasted Time, Pretty Maids All In A Row and MANY more. Also listen for solo tracks by Henley, Frey, Walsh and early member Randy Meisner .
She's a very talented singer/songwriter and a long time friend of KNX/FM. Lauren may be best known for her song Fallen on the soundtrack of the Pretty Woman feature film. However, we don't stop there. There are more cool Mellow Sound tracks on her albums which we spin every week. You'll also catch Lauren singing on some of our classic KNX/FM 93 jingles all around the clock.
Here's where we find ourselves in 2024. However, we don't see it as a FORK in the road at all but as a MERGING of great analog music with high quality 21st century delivery. The Mellow Sound has always been about great songs performed by real talented people in real studios. So, we still have our turntables and extensive library dedicated to original years of KNX/FM 1973-1983. And your ANALOG ears.

Just because it is fun to connect voices "on the radio" with faces of the actual people, here's a snapshot of our very talented Mary Price and also Douglas C. Brown. This is from our latest recording session for many of the elements that surround the music of The Mellow Sound.
Both Mary and Douglas have a long history in Los Angeles radio and love being part of the stream team.
Boz is a core artist of The Mellow Sound. Sure, we play his hits but we love the classy album tracks too like Slow Dancer, Harbor Lights, Freedom For The Stallion, You Make It So Hard and many more.
