: Eve's Bayou" (1997) is a distinguished film written and directed by Kasi Lemmons. The film has an excellent cast starring Samuel L. Jackson, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Meagan Good, Lynn Whitfield, Debbi Morgan, and Diahann Carroll. In 2018, the Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
The movie has a voodoo theme, and 70 or 80 years ago, this movie would have fallen into the horror genre simply because of the voodoo. However, it's not only the voodoo piece (Diahann Carroll) that interests us but also the psychic visions that Mozelle Batiste (Debbi Morgan) experiences that boost the mysterious nature of her character. I highly recommend this great movie to anyone who has not seen it.
