Patricia A. Zsebik

Patricia A. Zsebik (nee Mezlak), age 88, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Northridge Health Center in North Ridgeville following a lengthy illness.

Patricia was born on October 2, 1936, in Lorain, where she lived for 84 years before moving to Avon.

She attended Lorain High School and later worked at the Morning Journal in the circulation department for 20 years. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Hungarian Reformed Church.

Patricia's warmth extended to her love for animals and her enjoyment of television, two things that brought her comfort and joy.

Surviving is her brother, Michael Delczeg of Avon, and nephew, Michael Delczeg Jr. of Avon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 2004 and parents, Michael and Ann Mezlak.

Graveside services are scheduled for Tuesday, January 14th, at 11:00 am in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. Rev. Neil Walters, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul, will officiate.

Mary Lou Mesler

Mary Lou Mesler (nee Molnar), age 93, of Elyria, died Monday, January 6, 2025, at her residence while under the care of Cleveland Clinic Hospice following a lengthy illness.

Born July 11, 1931, in Elyria, she lived in South Lorain until moving to Elyria in 2000.

Mary Lou was a homemaker who enjoyed going to dinner, cooking, and trips to Cedar Point.

She was a dedicated worker who worked in packaging at First Choice Packaging in Elyria for a few years until the business closed. She was also a member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish in Lorain.

Surviving are her sons, James Mesler and John Mesler; daughters, Karon Harrell and Sharon Cruz; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, John, in 1998; parents, John and Margaret (nee Pachuta) Molnar; a brother, John “Sonny” Miller; and sisters, Madeleine Miller and Marilyn Kowalczyk.

Graveside services will be on Friday at noon in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. The Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists in Lorain are handling the arrangements.

Bonnie J. Bires

Bonnie Jean Bires (nee Oden), age 91 of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain.

Born March 10, 1933, to Arthur and Marcella (nee Wunenburger) Oden in Toledo, Ohio, Bonnie lived in Ohio her entire life.

She enjoyed collecting mice, swimming, gardening as well as taking care of her animals. Her biggest joy was taking care of her husband of 58 years, Thomas Bires.

Surviving are her children, Jane (Salvador) Jacinto, James (Mary Lyn) Bires, John (Jacqueline) Bires, Barbara (Sonny) Martinez and Joseph (Deborah) Bires as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Bires; son, Thomas Bires Jr., both of her parents and a sister, Gloria.

Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bonnie’s honor can be made to Whispering Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary, 7496 Norwalk Rd, Medina, OH 44256.

Louise Nelson

Cecelia Louise Nelson, age 90, of Lorain, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Wesleyan Village in Elyria.

Born December 15, 1934, to Oscar and Golabell (nee Cheatham) Frost in Greenville, Alabama, Louise moved to Ohio when she was 16 years old. For over 21 years she served as a nurses assistant for Good Samaritan Nursing Home until retiring in 1998.

Louise had a passion for the Gospel and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed puzzles, cooking and Westerns.

Surviving are her sons, Leason (Tawana) Nelson Jr. and Oscar Nelson; daughters, Linda (Melvin) Perry and Sherie (Carlos) Plaza; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, as well as her sister, Christine Smith.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents as well as her brothers, Ira Frost, Eddie Frost, Fred Forst, Oscar Frost Jr., and Erbie Frost.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 9 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Church on the North Coast, 4125 N. Leavitt Road, Lorain. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park.

Phyllis J. Fugate

Phyllis J. Fugate, born on January 22, 1945, in Charleston, West Virginia, passed away at the age of 79, on Sunday, December 22, 2024. She was welcomed into the Gates of Heaven, reuniting with her parents, Orval Theodore and Edith Ruth Wilson.

Born January 22, 1945, in Charleston, West Virginia, she graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1961.

Phyllis married the love of her life, Larry Fugate, on March 16, 1965, and raised two amazing sons, Bryan (Kristy) and Charles (Becky). Phyllis was blessed with three beautiful grandchildren, Tyler Por, Cody Fugate, and Rachel Fugate. She leaves behind her siblings, Janet (Chuck) Peterman and Kay Markham. Also part of her family were the many foster children she and Larry raised.

Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Bill Wilson; sister, Carol Miller; and half-sister, Geraldine Jackson.

Phyllis's generosity extended beyond her family. For many years, she and her husband ran a stand at Jamies Flea Market, where they sold a variety of cheeses. This was just one of the many ways she contributed to her community, her dedication to childcare being another shining example.

Private services, held for the family, were a solemn and intimate occasion. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Dovin Funeral & Cremation Specialists handled the arrangements.

Aaron Bailey

Aaron Bailey, born on November 3, 1968, in Amherst, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on December 13, 2024, in his hometown.

He enjoyed anything that had to do with the outdoors. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his daughters, Terra and Samantha Bailey, who were the pride and joy of his life. Aaron's legacy continues through his three grandchildren, who will remember him for his adventurous spirit and loving nature. He also leaves behind a brother, Ryan Bailey.

Aaron was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Bailey and Margaret Rogalski.
